Thus Unlimited Highlights presents five awesome issues starring the Mad Titan himself, Thanos. Bear witness to his humble beginnings, his genocidal tendencies, and even his resurrection. We’ve got it all right here folks!

IRON MAN (1968) #55

Drax the Destroyer, nigh immortal enemy of the devious Thanos of Titan, hangs fettered within the warlord’s hidden base, beaten but not yet broken. The telepathic alien avenger reaches out to Tony Stark, the Invincible Iron Man, in a last ditch cry for help, but his cerebral shout falls on deaf ears as the Blood Brothers, bludgeon the billionaire industrialist unconscious. Then two interstellar ne’er-do-wells cart him off to meet their malevolent master. Will Tony survive his encounter with Thanos, or will he be scattered like so much stardust on solar winds?

WARLOCK (1972) #10

In a twist no one saw coming, Thanos and his archenemy, the heroic spacefarer Adam Warlock, fight together as allies against the innumerable forces of the Magus. Worshipped as a god, he desires but two things: the death of the gold skinned wanderer and the unflagging obedience of a universe. Unfortunately for the villainous vicar, Thanos bends his knee to no one, and with Gamora and Pip the Troll in tow, the unlikely quartet may just make it out of the fiend’s flagship alive—if they can get past the 25,000 zealots that stand in their way.

To better serve Death, his silent mistress, Thanos seeks the limitless power of the Infinity Gems, which grant their owner dominion over the very pillars of the universe. However ancient Elders guard each precious stone, and they will not give them up easily. The Mad Titan must prepare for battle against beings that control the fabric of reality itself, creatures that bend time and space as easily they draw breath. It will take all of Thanos’ megalithic might and conniving cunning, but he will not be denied.

Annihilus, the insect ruler of the Negative Zone, soldiers ever closer to his dream of universal domination, but a surprising figure stands at his side: Thanos. What does Death’s former lover want with the Annihilation Wave? Why play royal vizier to the Negative Zone’s insane overlord? Does any of that really matter with Drax the Destroyer closing in?

Thanos died. He met his end at Drax’s hands. But something has brought him back from Death’s cold embrace and woe be it to whoever disturbed his final reverie.  However, his trip back from the black nothingness left his mind shattered, and now he rails against his bonds. Now only the Guardians of the Galaxy stand between the intergalactic executioner and a universe of helpless innocents. Thanos has returned, and that means dark days to come.
