After holding the WWE title for 434 days, longer than any other competitor in decades, CM Punk could rest on his laurels heading into this year’s WrestleMania. Instead, the self-proclaimed “Best in the World” will attempt to achieve something the likes of Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Edge have all failed at: defeating the Undertaker and ending his winning streak at WWE’s biggest show of the year.
Before he heads into battle with the Deadman, Punk took the time to talk to us, not only about his big match, but also a certain Mad Titan threatening the Marvel Universe this summer.
Marvel.com: So we all know the importance of WrestleMania, but this isn’t your first time on the show; is there anything you do to get yourself prepped and excited for it?
CM Punk: There used to be when I was young bright-eyed superstar but now, I think the only thing I really do is chill out a bit. And there’s a chance of even that not happening this year.
Marvel.com: Well what about getting ready to walk out to a WrestleMania crowd? I mean I could only imagine what the rush is like going down the ramp with thousands of fans chanting your name. Is there anything you can compare that feeling to?

CM Punk: Oh, well I don’t think I could compare it with anything. I think it was lost on me after my first four or five WrestleMania [appearances]. Last year I really slowed it down and took it all in. It’s a lot of people out there and that ramp was a long way. So I started to a lot of mental snapshots to remember the moment. Because it’s not something you get to do every day. It’s huge, it makes you realize how big the thing is; they are there to see you so not only am I amped up [but] ready to put on a show. I also tell that fun is very important aspect of what I do, and it can get lost a lot of the time. So I look to have a whole lot of fun at WrestleMania.
Marvel.com: At WrestleMania, you’re going to attempt to break the Undertaker’s winning streak. You’ve gone toe to toe before against the Deadman before, but with these kinds of stakes, is there any added pressure going into the match?
CM Punk: Well yeah, I mean a match against the Undertaker any other day of the year is still a big deal but not as big of a deal when you’ve got the opportunity to do that nobody’s been able to do for over 20 years this week at WrestleMania.
Marvel.com: Alright, let’s have some fun with Marvel characters. It’s fantasy casting time.
CM Punk: [Laughs] My favorite part!
Marvel.com: So you’re booking your match—what Marvel characters do you feel would carry the epic scale of your match with ‘Taker?
CM Punk: Oh geez, I don’t know—the only thing I could possibly think of is the Hulk versus the Thing. That was the one when I was a kid because it’s two big guys in the ring and it’s who’s going to win or what’s going to happen.
Marvel.com: Yesterday, we announced our next big comic event, Infinity, featuring the villain Thanos…
CM Punk: Nice!
Marvel.com: Before I get to my question, do you have a favorite Thanos story?
CM Punk: I’d go with INFINITY GAUNTLET. I think that was really well done.
Marvel.com: A classic! Well Thanos obviously has a huge obsession with death, sort of like the Undertaker. So with you holding the Undertaker’s urn and with him gunning for you, if we were to swap him with Thanos, what would be your plan of attack?
CM Punk: Well, if we swap out the Undertaker with Thanos then the urn is obviously the Infinity Gauntlet. I mean he’d probably just grab my hand and snap my fingers off, but I’d never give him the chance. I’d go in and do what it is I do best, and that’s win.
