Psych Ward

Psych Ward: Domino

The mutant mercenary looks for something more than luck.

By Tim Stevens

A sometime mercenary and current member of X-Force—an apparent black-ops splinter faction of the mutant rights group the X-Men—Domino was born Neena, last name unknown, though she would later take her late husband’s surname Thurman. She presents as having pale, almost chalk white skin, and what resembles a large black birth mark surrounding her left eye but is in fact a tattoo, a marking tag of sorts from Project: Armageddon. Her attire tends toward the provocative although she has, out of respect for this writer and the rest of the staff, recently chosen more therapy appropriate outfits. The client presents as being in above average physical fitness and reports no chronic illnesses at this time.

Neena has disclosed that she has little knowledge or awareness of her childhood until she arrived at Project: Armageddon. There, she was the subject of many experiments which eventually resulted in either “giving her” luck powers or simply bringing forth that which had, up until that that moment, remained latent and inactive. She was eventually rescued by her biological mother who, soon after that, left the client once again. The client claims she does not know anything about her father nor why it is her mother first left her with the Project and then, once more, with the Church of the Sacred Heart.

Regardless, of the why, the client opted to run away from the Church at 13 and made a living as a mercenary. She eventually acquired a government contract with the NSA, which led to her meeting the man who would become her husband. She and Dr. Milo Thurman fell in love and married in short order. Even more quickly, they were separated by an A.I.M. raid; both believed the other dead. According to records, Dr. Thurman is now deceased and the two were not able to return to their marriage before his passing.

The client once again returned to life as a mercenary, aligning herself with a group called the Six Pack. This eventually led to her inclusion with the first iteration of X-Force. Along the way, however, she was abducted and replaced by a shape shifter. She eventually escaped and her usurper was revealed a fraud. Unfortunately, it was not long before another villain, Bastion, kidnapped her. Although she has so far decline to explore this event with this writer, it appears she was psychologically and physically abused with in Bastion’s custody.

At this time, it is clear Domino is slow to trust, but does not seem opposed to the process of therapy. Possible issues to explore include complicated bereavement, antisocial behaviors, and some posttraumatic stress or acute stress disorder-esque reactions.

Neena Thurman will next meet with Doctors Dennis Hopeless and Salvador Larroca on May 15. Please see file CABLE & X-FORCE #8 for full details on the session.
