If you've already seen the new trailer for Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy," then you're welcome. If you haven't, then you need to fix that ASAP. There. Watched it? Good. We know that the movie's August 1 release date feels like it's light-years away, so we've come up with a list of six comics designed to introduce you to the team and satisfy your desire for more cosmic capers.
1. Peter Quill
How did a seemingly average Joe named Peter Quill get tangled up in this intergalactic madness? You can learn more about Star-Lord in this prequel issue of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
He's big, he's green, and he's angry. No, he's not the Hulk--he's Drax the Destroyer, and you'd better get out of his way. You can see the hard drinkin' and even harder fightin' alien warrior in action in this solo adventure.
Rocket may seem cute and cuddly, but this furry felon has a mean streak. This issue offers up some information about the actually-not-a-raccoon's origin, and you even get to see this Guardian of the Galaxy his natural habitat--a divebar.
She's the deadliest woman in the galaxy, and that's all you really need to know about the mysterious Gamora. Okay, she's also the adopted daughter of the cosmic tyrant known as Thanos, a fact that shines through with every ruthless swing of her sword.
Don't let Groot's limited vocabulary fool you; behind this wooden warrior's bark lurks plenty of brains and empathy. After years wandering the cosmos alone, the curious creature has finally found a home with this misfit band of heroes and a best friend in Rocket. There might be no Guardian as loyal to the cause as this refuge from Planet X.
When you put the word "guardian" in your team's name, you're practically begging for some intergalactic spoilsport to stir up trouble. This time around, that spoilsport just so happens to be Nebula, the ward of Thanos trained in brutality from childhood. MARVEL'S GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY PRELUDE #1 shows just how determined the dastardly Nebula can be, and it also explores her complicated history with Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
