It was incredible! We rang the bell yesterday and here's the pic to prove that I own a decent fitting suit.
JM: Y'know, one quick thing that occurred to me in the wake of your announcement that Marvel will be adapting Stephen King's THE STAND is the choice of artist. I love Mike Perkins' stuff, and I think he has a very "realistic" style that will lend itself well to the series, but…this is a real prize plum. An artist could stand to make some decent money on sales-based incentives on this. How much jockeying for position is there in something like this among artists? And how is a final determination made?

Well in the case of this project there really wasn't any jockeying as no one knew that the project was happening. Ultimately, the way it works is that we inform a few of our top guys and take their temperature about the project. In some cases there may be interest or perhaps not. In other cases their schedule may not work with the length of the project. But, when it's all said and done, we present Stephen with the artistic options we feel would work best and then he makes the final selection.
JM: So it might seem small potatoes on our side of the pond, but I hear the new CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI:13 is a media sensation in the UK. There are…what? Over 200 news articles on it after just the first issue there?

JQ: It is pretty insane. I was just on the Fox Business news this past Tuesday having a chat about the book. I tell you, that devilish Paul Cornell has certainly tapped a vain with Captain Britain. Perhaps having Prime Minister Gordon Brown make an appearance in the book had a little something to do with it.
JM: And lo and behold, CAPTAIN BRITAIN #2 just hit this week. What's happening with this book, and where's the series going?
It's turning into one of those wonderful buzz books that I think will be catching lightning in a bottle. Paul Cornell came to us via Mark Millar. You know how Mark loves to hob-knob with TV and motion picture celebs and in his hob-knobby travels and e-mailings, he happened to meet Paul. Being huge Doctor Who fans and becoming aware of Paul's work, we knew he was a guy who was going to explode within the comic's industry in just a short matter of time. Paul has that kind of imagination only seen rarely in writers like Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and yes, though I'm loathed to admit it, Mark Millar. If I'm a comic's fan, I'm buying everything written by Paul from this moment forward.
JM: Pretty much everyone has their own version of hometown boosterism. Do you see greater sales for this book in the UK?
I sure hope so but regardless it's really increased the exposure of the book here in the States and that's great news.
JM: Speaking of hometown boosterism, you had a rather tantalizing list of states with 50-state Initiative teams last week, which you know just gets people jonesing to know what's happening in their state if it wasn't listed. Is there really a plan on the wall somewhere at Marvel for what, say, the South Dakota team is?
We're hoping we can cover every state if not by showing the hero entrenched then at least in mention. But this is the kind of thing that keeps Dan Slott awake at night.
JM: WOLVERINE #66 hits next week, which is the start of a future "Old Man Wolverine" arc. Is this kinda like your recent THE END books, which tell a "final" story for certain characters?

JQ: No, I wouldn't consider it one of the END projects. This is more keeping in line with what has become a staple of the X-men Universe. It's a time line that takes us into Wolverine's future. That said, it also ties in with Mark's FANTASTIC FOUR and 1985, but I'm going to leave it there as I don't want to reveal any more than I have to at this point. Mark may be tiny, but he fights like a rabid weasel.
JM: I'm always amazed in the fan questions at how many people ask about Venom. Yet every time Marvel tries a VENOM series, it seems to el stinkeroonie. Why is that? Can Venom carry a series? Can a villian?

Venom had his day when whether he could carry a series or not was irrelevant. Just having the character in his own book meant huge sales. Today, it's a different story. I think we can do the occasional mini series and keep the quality up, but as an ongoing character he starts to wear thin. I'm sure somewhere down the road we'll find the key to making him work as an ongoing, but currently, when he shows up in a title, he's money in the bank and in a four issue mini like the upcoming one by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Angel Medina, he'll rock your world.
JM: Scottie Pippen was great as Scottie Pippen—a second banana to Michael Jordan. Are there comic characters like that? Great in the "support" role, but unable to be a marquee player? Doctor Strange might come to mind.
Yeah, there are certainly characters like that. Namor has been seen as one of those characters as has Nick Fury. But I refuse to believe that that's an absolute. I think what it means is that we haven't cracked the code yet. Sometimes that can boil down to the right creators on a project and sometimes it can boil down to it just being the right time for a character to hit the stratosphere.
JM: Switching gears, and correct me if I'm wrong here, but you seem to be heavy, heavy into Windsor McCay all of a sudden. What's with the McCay fixation?
I've always been a huge Windsor McKay fan, I've just been looking at his stuff a lot more recently because I'm working on a little side thing that sort of lends itself to his work. For my book, he's the greatest cartoonist that ever lived, but hey, that's just me. The guy drew better than anyone.
JM: So SKAAR, SON OF HULK #1 hit last week, and it was very cool-looking stuff from Ron Garney. Depending on the page, it looks like he's channeling everyone from Neal Adams to Adam Kubert to Michael Turner.
You'd probably have to ask Ron as to who he's exactly channeling. What I can tell you is that when I had my initial discussion with Ron, I kept saying the name, "Buscema!" With SKAAR, I wanted to reach into our past and bring back the feel of our old black and white sword and sorcery magazines. I loved that stuff as a kid and felt that it was something missing from our publishing plan. That's why Ron was my top choice for SKAAR and I was thrilled when he took the gig. He was made to draw this book precisely because he comes with those same chops that John Buscema had. He's a magnificent draftsman who manages to mix in incredible comic book distortion and dynamics with flawless anatomy and he's a brilliant storyteller. There are only a handful of guys in the comic's industry who have that combination and Ron is right up there at the top of the list.
JM: Now you guys are actually advertising this in USA Today? As part of a Father's Day ad? That's gotta be pretty expensive. How much did they dock your paycheck for that?
I'd rather not talk about it.
JM: So I guess it's no big reveal as it's in one of the TV commercials, but…geez. Iron Man pops up in "The Incredible Hulk" movie. These are great days we're livin', bro.
Jeeze, don't you believe in spoiler warnings? I do have to tell you, when you see Robert Downey appear, I don't think there's a person in the theater that doesn't get a chill up their spine, it's just a remarkable thing. Continuity across multiple franchises! What it felt like to me, and it was very palpable, was the same feeling I had knowing that all the Star Wars movies were connected and how I was being parceled information and moments from this incredibly diverse universe with a great history and from creators who had a plan. The big difference here is that we all know much of the Marvel history, but we're dying to see it realized and tweaked for film. Let me also add that there was some Stark Tech that was visible earlier on in the movie as well, so it's all connected.
JM: Fan questions?

We used to be able to read back issues via Marvel.com for free. Why start charging people now if you're giving them basically the same thing you were giving them for free before? I could understand if you were posting the new stuff as it comes out every Wednesday.
And tell Jeph Loeb I want an Ultimate Teen Wolf in the next installment of ULTIMATES, or at least a Commando reference.

Hey, Joe, whaddaya know?
Got some questions for ya.
Please do be so kind as to entreat me to the picking of your brain.
1) Do you feel that the eternal quest for ongoing monthly sales is the direct cause of the "big event" trend, or should we be taking into account every writer's desire to make their mark in comic history?
2) Do you feel that such a trend draws from the attention of, and, thus artistic merit, and perhaps even sales of the comics featuring events which truly were preplanned years in advance, and were truly meant to greatly overshadow the decade in comics, rather than just be another story which, though, to some degree successful, tried to trump the month prior, especially when factoring in those individuals such as myself that only purchase a comic book several times a year, and truly do wish to keep an eye on, say, the three biggest comic events of the year, without going broke in the process?
3) How do we, as fans, tell the difference between shining
mediocrity and years of planning, when we have to suffer
the same hype each and every month? Is there a rule of
thumb? Some certain key phrase we should be watching for that isn't shouted at us on the cover of every comic?
4) Do you feel that crossovers for the mere sake of continuity and the sales of a single issue can, at times, betray the artistic integrity of characters and their own respective, perceived world (within their series), such as with mature and/or dark characters in their own dark worlds becoming a sort of joke when seen opposite the bright and chipper character popular with fans of one type, or in a bright and chipper world that may feel very foreign to the fans of the very specific, dark, gritty serial, forever influencing their view of that favored line, possibly ruining that character forever in their eyes?
Derrick, looks like you have a lot on your mind. Let me see if I can answer this as simply as possible but I have to admit that I'm having trouble understanding some of what you're asking.
1) The eternal quest for ongoing monthly sales is at its heart what the business of publishing is all about. Without it, there would no longer be any comics, magazines or books to read. Every issue we try to give you something compelling to come back to.
2) I don't understand how creating a compelling story or event takes away from artistic merit. Does it? Also, most comic stories, singular or "event," are usually planned many, many months in advance, and sometimes years in advance. Not quite sure of what you're asking, but I don't see how comics today are any different than how they were yesteryear?.
3) We try to assist you with that by giving you as much information about each project before it comes out so that you can make as educated a decision as you can. That said, I don't believe for a second that anyone goes out there and tries to create a mediocre product on purpose. Sometimes you hit, sometimes you miss. You also need to keep in mind that when something gets a significant amount of marketing push and dollars, it's because the publisher believes in the project and that the fans will enjoy it. No one wants to spend good money on a bad product.
4) Ummm…no. Just using the Marvel U. as an example, it's been around for a very long time, it's endured huge crossovers, team-ups, revamps, and litany of other things and yet here it is, healthier than ever. At the end of the day, it's all about keeping things fun and fresh and providing great stories.
Now, all that said, the alternative would be to provide our fans with stories that don't move the characters in any direction and that maintain the status quo forever and keep everything and everyone in their own little niche. Somehow I feel like that would be the kiss of death.

I'm a huge Ghost Rider fan, going back to the original Johnny Blaze series, and I'm absolutely loving the current run by Jason Aaron and Roland Boschi. Now that Danny Ketch is back, will we be seeing some collections of the 90's GHOST RIDER series? It boggles my mind that a book that was so popular in its day, and such a sales success, remains out of print outside of one 7-issue trade.
Ixnay, I'm sorry to say that there are no Danny Ketch trades planned at this moment.
1. I was hoping I could get your opinion on legacy characters. Over the last few years with Young Avengers, certain X-Men characters, Bucky taking on Cap's mantle, Skaar, and Fury's new Commandos, Marvel seems to have really made an effort to establish legacy characters for their universe. DC is well known for this; so was this something that you or other staff wanted to address, or did it just happen based off the opportunities that were presented? By the way, I am liking the directions of these characters.
2. During your tenure as EIC at Marvel, have you accomplished all of your goals that you had originally set, and if so, could you give us some insight on you new goals for the company?
3. I want you to stay at Marvel, but would you ever consider going to DC to try and do what you have done at Marvel for them? You mentioned something about a plan for DC a while back.
4. Any chance we will ever see Brad Meltzer and/or Michael Chabon do work for Marvel?
1- Zac, there was no real plan to do the legacy character thing, it just sort of evolved. I would say that it started quite innocently and brilliantly with Allan Heinberg's concept for Young Avengers. Up until that point, the idea of legacy style characters never worked in the Marvel U and seemed forced and silly, but Allan made it work and I think it worked because they weren't side kicks or kids placed in the line of fire by an adult hero which always seemed at odds with the real world aspect of the Marvel Universe. After the creation of Young Avengers, everything else that came afterwards has just been sheer happenstance but certainly inspired by the tone he created.
2- I've accomplished many of the major goals that I think were stalling our universe and characters, but there are always new goals on the horizon. The one huge goal that I'd like to see, and hopefully I'll see it in my life time, is the complete acceptance of the comic's medium in popular American culture. During my Fox Business interview, the broadcaster interviewing me was about to confess that he has a collection of comics from back in the day and that he was knowledgeable about the Marvel U, but he prefaced the statement by saying, "This is going to be horrible for me to admit--" Now, while I know he didn't mean it that way, it's that apologetic attitude that I want to see extinguished forever. I know the day is coming and we work hard at getting there every day here at Marvel, but for me it can't get here quick enough.
3- While I know life can often throw the unexpected at you, I don't see a time when I'll ever be soiling the halls of DC anytime in the near future.
If not for anything else other than I'm aware of a few folks over there who aren't very fond of me, and that's cool. That said, there was a time when I would imagine what I would do with the Marvel U if just given the keys to the car and then one day I was given those keys and I was able to work on some of those plans and yes, I have ideas about the DCU that I think would be pretty successful but I'll have to keep those to myself. While I don't feel it's appropriate for me to speak about what my ideas would be, I can say this, the first thing I put great focus on when I started here at Marvel was making our books accessible to readers new and old.
4- Those guys are brilliant and while I never say never, I can tell you that currently there aren't any plans.

Why is it that some weeks there are only a few Marvel titles and then other weeks we get slammed with all your top books? With the economy the way it is how can you expect us to buy all your top books in one week, why can't they be spread out over a month so I can afford more books? C'mon work with us Joe. Why does this happen?
Hey, Mikey, we make a very concerted effort to spread out the books over the 4 or 5 weeks of a month, but stuff shifts from time to time for many reasons and those odds go up exponentially with the more titles we produce. Comics are produced by human beings and stuff will always come up that will cause one book or another to miss by a week, sometimes a month and sometimes even longer and we work very hard to keep the creative integrity of our books as intact as possible and to do that, sometimes things get shifted around. That said, when we create our original monthly and weekly shipping plan, it's worked out with everyone's wallets in mind and we try to spread the wealth out in a manageable way to make it easier on everyone. But once a book slips here and there, well, that can send a cascading domino effect across an entire month.
But let me also add, that if you find yourself with a very heavy week of your favorite comics and you're on a strict weekly budget, then just have your retailer put your books on hold for the following week or the next lightest week. This way you know all your favorites are there waiting for you and you can budget yourself accordingly. Nothing says you have to buy them the day they come out, I know it's tough to resist, but that's my job, to make it difficult for you to turn away and leave all those great comics for another day.
Joe, what are Marvel's plans to celebrate 10 exciting and amazing years of the Marvel Knights line?

The Golden Age Old Phantom Tiger asks:
First, I just want to say that the Brubaker and Fraction's IMMORTAL IRON FIST is the greatest thing in all of comic-dom, followed closely by its five horsemen of awesome (better than those dudes that only number four): Captain America, both Iron Man books, Captain Britain & MI:13 and Hercules.
So along those lines:
1) Would yo have ever guessed that a Hercules or a Captain Britain comic would've been so awesome before all this?
2)And please tell me that Incredible Hercules will keep Herc as the star for the foreseeable future, if not forever. He's just too great.
3) Is it true that the Knaufs are no longer the ongoing writers for IRON MAN: DIRECTOR OF S.H.I.E.L.D.? If so, will we hear an announcement soonish? And again, if they're truly gone, please, please, please keep it around as an Iron Man title with that espionage flair that the Knauf gave it so brilliantly with the DoS arcs. I hear tons of conjecture online about this book becoming a Nick Fury book after "Secret Invasion," but I'd be very sad to see that happen. Just so you know, I want both Iron Man books and a Fury book, I'd like to have my cake and eat it too and also have pie as well.
4) Finally, with CAPTAIN AMERICA, IRON MAN: DoS, and CAPTAIN BRITAIN & MI:13, you have an awesome line up of espionage/spy titles for superheroes. I honestly feel drawn to those books and that tone that they're hitting more than any other type of book other than maybe the pulp adventures of Iron Fist, and the noir of Criminal.
Would you consider giving us a couple more titles with a similar espionage ..style.. to them. I'd love to see that (Black Panther comes to mind as a possibility for that treatment), I love how they're unconnected yet still play off of each other and enrich the whole espionage/spy/government agency angle in the MU... although it would be nice to see them ever-so-slightly more connected to each other so they can deepen that whole scene, but especially now that it has a international scope with addition of Cap Britain.
1-You can never predict total awesomeness, Tiger, but with the great creative teams we placed on those books, we certainly helped our odds at reaching complete and utter awesometivity.
2- We're happy to announce that the critically acclaimed INCREDIBLE HERCULES is approved through issue #130. If you're not reading Herc, then you're missing out on a very special comic.

3- Yes, it's true that the Knaufs have wrapped up their stint on IRON MAN: DIRECTOR OF S.H.I.E.L.D. with #28. We're sad to see them go, but happy to know that they'll be shifting over to the new ETERNALS series illustrated by soon-to-be superstar Daniel Acuna. Their first fantastic issue hit stands June 11th. As for a new writer on IM:DOS, we'll have some news on that front before long. And we guarantee you that we won't be turning IRON MAN: DIRECTOR OF S.H.I.E.L.D. into a NICK FURY series, which of course would be difficult to do after you see what happens to him at the end of Secr - - - dang
, I'm always messing up.

4- While there are no concrete plans at the moment for additional books in that flavor, I can certainly see a few coming up down the road. Also, if you're a fan of the noir stuff, the don't forget to add MOON KNIGHT, PUNISHER and DAREDEVIL to that mix. Also, with respect to noir, if you're a fan of the genre, we have some big plans in that area that I'll speak about somewhere down the road.

What is the current status on Frank Cho's MAX Shanna version?
Auguste, it's happening. Be patient -- it'll be worth it. Frank's been pretty busy with his MIGHTY AVENGERS work, but he intends to work on the revised and extra pages in coming months.
Merc With a Mouth asks:
1) Will Bishop ever be shown in a heroic way again? Instead of just well killing his former teammates? It just seems like a complete 180 from who we've all known him as from his solo series and from years of protecting Xavier's dream.
2) Any chance of a Kl'rt the original Super-Skrull getting his own series? It would be awesome having him and Ronan the Accuser on a regular basis.
3) If the new Captain Marvel survives "Secret Invasion" any chance of him joining one of the Avengers teams?
1- What makes you think that he's not still protecting the dream? Did Xavier try to prevent Magneto from doing things that would (in his opinion) damage mutantkind irreparably? Bishop sees the baby from MESSIAH COMPLEX as the single most dangerous mutant ever to exist. This baby, as far as Bishop knows, caused the death of millions and the encampment of hundreds of thousands of mutants. And the thing is, we don't know that Bishop is wrong.
2- No immediate plans, but he plays a significant role in SECRET INVASION, both in the NOVA and SHE-HULK tie-in issues.
3- There'll almost certainly be a Captain Marvel among the Avengers after SECRET INVASION—but it's anybody's guess who might be filling the costume (or even what costume it is!)

At WWPhilly a third MARVEL ZOMBIES miniseries was announced and I just freaked.
I know it is not high-literature but it is indeed damn entertaining.
I did feel something amiss though.
There was no announcement of Suydam doing the (variant) covers :(
It is of the utmost shame if he will not be joining in on that Zombie-funfest again, since his covers have helped determine the succes of the first series so very very much...or at least it was one of the factors that made it stand out. Truly stand out, beyond a gimmick-kinda excercise.
So my question is this: is Suydam doing covers or not?
No, Arthur won't be doing covers for this new series but I think you'll love the Zombie covers by new cover artist, Greg Land, who brought us to the Zombieverse for the very first time back in ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #21 with Mark Millar.
Ok Joe, here's one question I'm sure is on the minds of a lot of Brubaker Cap fans- Will Sharon Carter give birth to Steve Rogers' child, and how long will we have to wait for that payoff.
Please tell me this is something Ed Brubaker has worked out and since this is comics, readers won't have to wait 100 issues for one full Marvel year to pass? Think this event, if/when it happens will be as big as Cap's death, enough for you to appear on The Colbert Report again?

You've got to give the Utah team its own book. It doesn't have to be on-going. Give them a mini, a one-shot, something! And you've got to give that project to Michael Allred.
How awesome would that be?!
I like the Allred angle, but as for a mini about the Initiative team from Utah, ummmmm- nahhhh.
I've really been enjoying ULTIMATES 3, but much like ULTIMATES 1 & 2 it is being plagued by lateness.
I thought you guys gave Joe Mad enough lead time to get this completed on time? Since I'm having to go without it could you answer a few questions? 1) When will issues #4 & #5 be released? 2) Is Wasp still Asian? 3) Why is Thor's hammer different from ULTIMATES V1 & V2?
Issue #4 will go on sale the last week of June…and it will reveal why Thor's hammer indeed looks different! And yes, Wasp is still Asian.
1. Thor would be a natural fit for the New Avengers, plus they are seriously hurting for some muscle. Hint, hint! Being on Avengers team also couldn't hurt his comeback, either (not that his own book isn't doing extremely well).
2. It would be cool if there could be a page on Marvel.com where we could look up our favorite writers and artists to see what projects they're currently working on or have in the works. Sometimes a writer or artist will really pique my interest, but I have a hard time figuring out where I can find more of their work.

2- We completely agree. Stay tuned for upgrades to our catalog that will allow you to follow all of your favorite writers, artists and even characters.
Just one question here: Are we ever going to see Kasper Cole show up again, even if it's on a S.H.I.E.L.D. screen or in just one panel?
No immediate plans for poor old Kaspar (who's had not one but two super hero names taken from him), but it's almost inevitable that he'll turn up somewhere down the line.
With the return of Venom and Norman Osborn this summer in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, I got to wondering if we will be seeing the return of the original Hobgoblin, Roderick Kingsley, back in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN soon? He's my favorite villain of all time, and I feel he's been really underused for such a popular Spidey Rogue. And speaking of Hobgoblin, any chance we could see his co-creator Roger Stern team-up with fellow co-creator John Romita Jr.
to bring him back?
I'm not going to reveal whether or not there are plans for Roderick given that we currently have someone terrorizing the city named Menace who seems to have a lot of the Hobgoblins old habits, but I can tell you that Roger Stern has written a fantastic Spidey issue that he's working on with Lee Weeks for an upcoming issue of AMAZING.
I am from Oklahoma and I was both excited and a little afraid when I heard that Thor was going to be based in Oklahoma for a while. I was afraid (like you said) that we were going to be portrayed as the classic Dust Bowl era stereotype of dumb bumpkins that people who've never actually been to Oklahoma still believe we are. They've also never bothered to look up modern pictures of our state to see that It's just like any other state. We have cities, plains, mesas, lakes, forests, we even have a desert that we call Little Sahara. Anyway...that's not my main point.
I just want to say that I'm very impressed that you know about the Heavener Runestone and it's history. Most Oklahomans don't even know about it and I'm always trying to tell people about it. I wondered if that's why JMS decided to base Thor there and you confirmed that in the last "Cup". I love that Thor is in Oklahoma and quite frankly that's the reason I started reading this Thor series. I was never really a fan of the character, but I picked up THOR #1 and have been hooked since. I would just request that more of Oklahoma be featured and not just the open mesquite bush/plains area that has been featured so far. Maybe we could see Thor flying across Tulsa or Oklahoma City. Maybe we could see him flying to Alabaster Caverns State Park and finding some Norse item there or maybe a story about the Heavener Runestone or something like that. I just want people to see more of my state since they don't bother to banish their ignorant stereotypes themselves. Anyway...give JMS props for me for featuring Oklahoma the way he has and trying to give us a little respect.
I have a question or two:
1)Will Thor's and Asgard's current location continue to be Oklahoma for the foreseeable future or is this just a temporary thing for a few arcs?
2)When a writer decides to move a character or team, how much discussion goes into that? For example when someone says let's move the X-Men to Australia or currently San Francisco who came up with those locales and what makes you or one of the editors decide that the idea will work or not? How many ideas like that get shot down or put on the back burner for a future story?
3)What are some of the locations that people have wanted to move a character or team that didn't work out or wouldn't have worked out had the story been written.
4) This one is unrelated to locations: I just finished reading ULTIMATE X-MEN #93 (remember I get a lot more titles now than I used to so it takes me a while to get through my stacks) and then started reading issue #94 and it seemed like there was a huge gap of time missing. Did I miss something or will this all be explained in later issues or will it be explained in ULTIMATE ORIGINS or ULTIMATUM? I was just curious because it seemed like a lot of things had changed without any explanation such as Jean saying she was leaving in #93 and then she's still there in #94 or Nightcrawler suddenly on the team again without seeing him and the X-Men come to terms.
Okay, that's all the questions (and of course I don't expect you to print everything...just the things that you deem printable should you decide to print my comment).
One more thing...I am from Oklahoma, but I now live in Chicago. I saw you at last year's Wizard World and I hope to see you there again this year. I really love what you and all the rest of Marvel are doing right now. I've never bought as many titles as I am currently buying right now. I used to be an X-Men family only since I started reading in 1990, but then I got NEW AVENGERS when that first started and that led to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and THOR and MIGHTY AVENGERS and all of your big event books and MARVEL ZOMBIES and everything else. I wish that I could be a part of your company, but sadly there's not really anything I could contribute. I can't draw or write. All I do is act and sing so I guess I'll just have to keep buying the great products you put out and that will be enough. You guys are really churning out some good stuff right now and I just want to congratulate you on that.
Caleb, while I would love to say that I was aware of the Heavener Runestone, I'm just a bumpkin from NYC. It was actually JMS who was very aware of it. He happens to be smarter than me, so no surprise there..
As for Thor flying across Tulsa and other bigger cities in Oklahoma, that's ultimately up to Joe and Olivier and where their story is going. I think one of the reasons you're seeing small town Oklahoma, and I don't want to put words in the mouths of our two creators, so this is just me speaking, is the juxtaposition between the grandeur that is Asgard and the gods and the small town and it's colorful cast of characters.
1- As far as I know, yes. I personally find Asgard more interesting sitting in Oklahoma than in some spacey dimension.
2- The ideas come our of story and the logic within that story. For example, in the case of X-Men and their move to San Francisco, it was a location that was going to give us some wonderful story elements as well as a change of pace for the characters.
3- Ed Brubaker wanted to move Daredevil to Jersey solely for the reason of calling him the Jersey Devil. A cheap trick if you ask me.
4- As the recap page in ULTIMATE X-MEN #94 explained, time has indeed passed since issue #93…and mysteries will indeed unfold in upcoming issues, especially the interesting behavior of Jean Grey!

1- Ok...I know you aren't/can't answer this question but I'm gonna ask it any way. So MJ knows that Pete is Spidey and she remembers their former life together?? Are we gonna find out just what MJ whispered to Mephisto at the end of "OMD"???
2- I love that the X-Men are moving out west to San Francisco.
I always felt that SF was a bit of a "home-away-from-home" for those merry mutants, but why SF?? Did the fact that they were staying there for a bit in the early issues of the #200s of UNCANNY have anything to do with that?
3- Can we please get a romantic interest for Nightcrawler? Where's Amanda Sefton? The guy is Errol Flynn incarnate can we start seeing that again?
4- Now, unless my eyes were mistaken, are we gonna see Dazzler in ASTONISHING?? I thought you had a pretty severe dislike for her? Any plans for Lila Cheney to be part of the X-Men universe again?
Lastly...do you see digital comics becoming more mainstream? I hope it never overtakes the hard copy, but I am intrigued by this media.

Rumor? What makes you think it's just a rumor?
1- No one has said MJ remembers anything, but that's certainly how a lot of people have interpreted it. As for what Mephisto whispered… she told Mephisto that she knew a way she could save up to 40% on car insurance.
2- The move to SF was Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction's idea. And we loved it. We couldn't think of a better place for the mutants to go in search of acceptance. Didn't hurt that Executive Editor Axel Alonso grew up there. Also, SF is on the other side of the country
from all the rest of the big heroes. In SF, the X-Men can get a fresh start, and really stake out a claim for their own space -- something that was hard to do on the East Coast.
3- Sounds to me like someone has a crush on Nightcrawler. Keep reading, True Believer!
4- You are
going to see Dazzler, but in UNCANNY, not ASTONISHING. In the end, no matter what I tried, I couldn't prevent this. As for Lila, there are no current plans, but you never know. And let me just say that my dislike of Dazzler strictly comes from my hatred of disco.
I have become a Spider-Woman fan ever since her reintroduction in Bendis' NEW AVENGERS and have been looking forward to her ongoing series by Bendis and Maleev. (Maleev's artwork is spectacular and S-W's appearance in MIGHTY AVENGERS #13 really made me even more excited about her series!) Now that she's been revealed as a Skrull all along, can I still anticipate her ongoing in the future?
I'm still holding out hope that Spider-Woman is actually impersonating the Skrull Queen as a quadruple agent!
