Digital Comics Creator Spotlight: Axel Alonso

On the 10th anniversary of the Marvel Knights imprint, Executive Editor Axel Alonso celebrates his MK memories

Every week, we'll tap one creator to browse Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited and pick some of their favorite work from the expansive catalog. This week: Executive Editor Axel Alosno reminisces on some of his personal highlights from 10 years of Marvel Knights:

"Reggie Hudlin and John Romita Jr. put 'the Mack' back in T'Challa, the world's first Black super hero, with 'Who Is the Black Panther?' a story arc that deftly combined widescreen super heroics and biting political commentary. A story arc so good it could be an animated series premiering this February on B.E.T. "Is there a more versatile talent than Kaare Andrews? I can't think of one. SPIDER-MAN: REIGN was more than

just tip his hat to Frank Miller; it was a glimpse of a major talent who's only beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. I still get chills when I think of Doc Ock's petrified corpse coming to Peter's rescue in issue #2. I mean, only a nut could have thought of that?!

"Growing up as a skate-rat in California, I always had a special place in my heart for Silver Surfer, a hippie/pacifist who could seriously shred on that board of his. So when Joe Straczynski told me his idea for a Surfer story, I knew that fellow Surfer-lover Esad Ribic would be the man for the job. Esad's lived through war, so he brought a special passion to SILVER SURFER: REQUIEM."
