TGIF has gone to the dogs! And cats, and apes, and dragons...
To commemorate this week's release of LOCKJAW AND THE PET AVENGERS #1
, we asked a flock of Marvel creators and editors to name their favorite animals from the Marvel U!
It's Friday, so kick back, relax and enjoy.
MARC SUMERAK (writer of WEAPON X: FIRST CLASS):
Red Ghost's Super Apes. No competition. You had me at "evil monkeys with super powers"...
RAFA SANDOVAL (artist of YOUNG X-MEN):
My favorite pet is Lockheed. I've always liked him since the first time that I saw in the collection of EXCALIBUR by Alan Davis and Chris Claremont.
BILL ROSEMANN (Marvel editor):
Hey, True Believers
! It's Captain Cosmic here reminding you to have you pets spaded and neutered. That is, unless we're talking about Cosmo, the telepathic and telekinetic Russian cosmonaut dog who happens to run security at Knowhere, the HQ of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Whether you need a Skrull interrogated or a Badoon busted, Cosmo is your man-er...make that dog-to keep your decapitated-Celestial-head-that-now-functions-as-an-intergalactic-science-outpost safe and sound. He's also quite fun to down shots of vodka with...but don't get him started on Rocket Raccoon-they've got quite the feud brewing. Until next time, onwards and upwards!
FRED VAN LENTE (writer of INCREDIBLE HERCULES):
Why the coyote pup of Amadeus Cho from INCREDIBLE HERCULES, of course. As he comes in both Skrull and Terran, he's one of the few pets that actually has his own variant.
KEVIN GREVIOUX (writer of ADAM: LEGEND OF THE BLUE MARVEL):
It's a toss up between Redwing and Zabu. These two Marvel pets are so well associated with the Falcon and Ka-Zar respectively that you can rarely think of their masters without them
being nearby. Not to mention, that they are each so well trained you tend to wonder why they each weren't given their own thought balloons.
LARRY STROMAN (former artist of X-FACTOR):
Lockjaw. Very dependable, big, intimidating, looks cool next to other characters and unlike most animal comedy relief characters, he's quiet and does that sweet transportation thing.
MIKE PERKINS (artist of THE STAND: AMERICAN NIGHTMARES):
Lockheed. Who wouldn't want a funky, small, purple fire breathing dragon?!!
AXEL ALONSO (Marvel Executive Editor):
Zabu. And I'm not a cat person so that's saying a lot.
