Eddie Brock may think of himself as a hero these days, but he’ll have a hard time convincing the Punisher he’s changed his villainous ways in SPIDER-MAN PRESENTS: ANTI-VENOM – NEW WAYS TO LIVE #1, on sale September 2 from writer Zeb Wells and artist Paulo Siqueira.

According to Wells, Brock’s agenda in this series boils down to two simple tenets:

“He wants to clean up the streets and prove to the world that he's a born-again good guy,” the writer explains.

However, with a character like Eddie Brock, the former Venom, questions of good and evil depend entirely on your perspective.

“Eddie's a narcissist and a sociopath,” Wells points out. “He's always been a misunderstood hero...in his own mind.”

This time around, Eddie won’t have to just convince himself of his good intentions, as Frank Castle comes to town looking for Anti-Venom’s head.

“As Anti-Venom attempts to clean up the streets, his path naturally intersects with the Punisher's,” Wells elaborates. “Eddie's excited to have a partner. The Punisher...not so much.”

As for how Brock goes about convincing the Punisher of his new, heroic mission, Wells says that he might not have so much luck.

“Seeing as how Eddie's yet to convince me that he's reformed, the quick answer would be: He doesn't [convince The Punisher].”

Anti-Venom previously appeared in the “New Ways to Die” story-arc and in a story from AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: EXTRA! #2. Readers of those previous stories may find some elements have carried over into Wells’ tale.

“Jenna, the girl Eddie set on the right path in Dan Slott's great EXTRA! Story, will be making an appearance,” the writer reveals. “Dan was foolishly thinking out loud while on the phone with me and mentioned Jenna would be a great informant for Anti-Venom's war on crime. I have stolen this idea and am running with it. Your move, Slott! Catch me if you can!”

Leaving off, Wells promises fans won’t walk away disappointed with the artwork.

“I think people are going to enjoy watching Eddie and Frank ‘work together,’ but I have to say the real star of the show is artist Paolo Siquiera. People have got to check out what he's doing in this book. Amazing.”
