What do you do after winning one galactic war? Why, go fight another one, of course!
The Guardians of the Galaxy find themselves in the middle of the Secret Invasion this August, helping fight off the Skrull forces. We spoke with series writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning about what to expect when GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #4 hits stands!
While the duo remains tight-lipped on most of the details, they would let a few things slip: "Without giving too much away, the Guardians find themselves embroiled in a situation where they learn the Skrulls have infiltrated Knowhere, their home base," Abnett reveals.
Abnett and Lanning promise fans that the Skrulls will push the Guardians to their limit. "The comparatively weak links in this hastily put together team are tested to the breaking point," forcing them to face some hard questions.
"Do any of the team members actually trust any of the others," asks Lanning rhetorically. "They have got plenty of good reasons not to. Tensions boil over when the Guardians finally have to ask, 'who do you trust?'"
Even after an exhausting battle with Ultron and his Phalanx forces, the writers say the Guardians won't have a problem entering another fray so quickly, noting that a situation like Secret Invasion "is the whole reason for their formation."
"They stand ready to meet any outbreak of hostilities head-on and are determined to protect and shore up the fragile structure of the universe in the post-Conquest era," asserts Lanning.
While most tie-ins will focus on Earth's heroes as they defend their home, the Guardians will bring a fresh perspective to the invasion.
"The Guardians are looking at the Invasion from the outside," Abnett notes. "Their [point of view] is cosmic in scale and scope and therefore should provide an interesting contrast to the main Secret Invasion stories presented in other titles."
