Digital Comics Creator Spotlight: Chris Eliopoulos Franklin Richards' main man helps celebrate the little guy's 40th birthday and an early Thanksgiving
Posted: 2008-11-18 Updated: 2008-11-20 10:14:57 Happy birthday, Franklin Richards! November marks 40 fantastic years of Franklin Richards in the Marvel Universe and we're celebrating with Franklin Richards week from November 17-21! Grab your copy of FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL #6 (Franklin's first appearance, 'natch) and stick with us all week long for more Franklin goodness.
Every week, we'll tap one creator to browse Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited and pick some of their favorite work from the expansive catalog. This week: writer/artist Chris Eliopoulos joins the Franklin Richards birthday celebration with his memories of FRANKLIN RICHARDS: HAPPY FRANKSGIVING!
"Doing a book like FRANKLIN RICHARDS: SON OF A GENIUS is a blast. Anything can happen and you can take any normal thing, such as Thanksgiving, and turn it on its ears.
"The schedule had this book coming out right before Thanksgiving, so we had to do a twist on that. I thought, of course, that somewhere in the multiverse would be a world where turkeys were the dominant species. And what would they have for Thanksgiving? Humans, of course. But, we went even further and showed the Fantastic Four as turkeys as well. You won't find that in the regular FF book.
"To top it off, I had to have the turkeys getting ready to cook Franklin and H.E.R.B.I.E. with the obvious line of ' Now we're in some hot water.'"
"The interesting part of the cover is that I colored it myself and took the background picture. I drove around to a couple parks in my area to find the perfect shot of trees and grass. And to get the perspective right, had to lay on the ground to take. People must have thought I was nuts.
"This was also the first issue colored by Brad Anderson who got what I was going for right from the beginning and does a bang up job on every issue!"
