Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost shine the spotlight on
Wolverine and
Domino in the upcoming three-issue X-FORCE: SEX & VIOLENCE limited series with fully painted art from Gabriele Dell'Otto.
As Yost describes it, "X-FORCE: SEX & VIOLENCE is a charming little tale about revenge and payback and killing and explosions and lies, with a little loving to break the tension.
"The Assassins Guild has put a hit out on Domino," Yost continues. "Wolverine finds out. They go to get the hit 'removed.' Sex and violence ensue."
The decision to focus the limited series on Wolverine and Domino, two of
X-Force's current members, came about for a number of reasons.
"It seemed the most exciting pairing, frankly," Yost admits. "Ever since we brought Domino onto the team, we wanted to explore the very adult dynamic between the two, but with X-Force being as story driven as it is, it didn't seem like we were going to have time."
"Chris and I were given some limitations on the story set by Gabriele," Kyle elaborates. "He didn't want a ton of characters and he wanted room to show off his serious chops. For us it was a great hit list of things to attack. We've been working on a team book for a long time now, so working with a more intimate cast is a really refreshing change. Also, by limiting the panel count on each page we get to write less and take credit for Gabriele's genius. It's a win-win for us."
Though the story of SEX & VIOLENCE won't tie directly into the regular X-FORCE series, Yost tells us that some overlap will occur.
"SEX & VIOLENCE isn't connected to the main
Bastion story arc in X-
FORCE, or 'Messiah War' or any of that, but elements and relationships will go between the two pretty freely. It's still X-Force, just a self-contained arc."
The opportunity to tell a story not connected to the larger meta-arc of X-FORCE proved enticing to Kyle.
"This is the first off-arc story for us and it gives us the chance to broaden the character's without tying them into the big picture," the writer states. "It's going to be awesome!"
Wrapping up, the writers had nothing but praise for their artistic partner in crime for this series.
"Gabriele has that edge, his stuff is gorgeous, but it's a bit dangerous too," Yost points out. "It's dark, mysterious and sexy, and this is going to be amazing, just based on the promo image he did. Craig and I are as excited to see it as anyone."
"When John Barber said Gabriele was doing the art we faked like we had to think about taking the gig but in truth we were stoked," confesses Kyle. "No one is stupid enough to pass on working with guys like Gabriele. Now the pressure is on us to deliver a hugely kickass story. Fingers crossed!"
