The Dark Reign holds no favorites, falling over friends, foes and families alike—including the Fantastic Four.

Norman Osborn's new world order turns its cold eye upon the famous foursome of adventurers beginning this March 4 in DARK REIGN: FANTASTIC FOUR, a five-part limited series from writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Sean Chen. The tale begins with a bang and things get far, far worse from there.

"In the days following the end of the Secret Invasion and beginning of Norman's ascendancy, Reed's overcome with guilt over, what he considers to be, his part in bringing everything that has happened over the last couple of years to pass—Civil War, Illuminati stuff, Secret Invasion, and now Dark Reign," explains Hickman. "So he does what comes naturally: he builds a machine. Other things happen—plans go wrong."

Issue #1 promises not only Mr. Fantastic's

newest creation but also time travel, alternate realities, Doombots and the incredible presence of the Eternals, Celestials and Deviants. Could things get more cosmic? Well, it's the Fantastic Four, after all!

Though how such cosmic entities as the Eternals and their ilk figure into DARK REIGN: FANTASTIC FOUR remains a closely-guarded secret for now, Hickman points out that the more down-to-earth story of Reed Richards' feelings towards his old compatriot Tony Stark's ousting will also have its day.

"By the end of the five issues you'll have seen the following: a medieval revolution, Ben Grimm with both a monocle and an eyepatch, Sue in a gunfight at high noon, Johnny Storm: Privateer, Franklin doing his best Wyatt Earp and Reed downloading roughly 1000 worlds into his brain," Hickman notes.

The series encompasses these diverse elements and also throws in an attack on the Baxter Building, FF HQ, by Osborn's H.A.M.M.E.R. agency just to make things really interesting. How does the former Green Goblin get away with all this? Hickman's succinct in his appraisal of Osborn's character:

"He's in charge and people have to get in line—and he's nuts, right?"
