To Whom It May Concern at the NYPD,
Last night, I saw a client who identified himself as Wilson Fisk; I believe he is more commonly known in your circles as the "Kingpin of Crime." He arrived without an appointment and spoke to me for the length of one session. In following the precedent set by Tarasoff v. Regents of the University of California
, I am violating Fisk's confidentiality by sending you my notes on the session. This is because I believe he poses a direct, real, and specific threat to himself and others and I therefore have a duty to warn, which trumps patient-doctor confidentiality. The session notes follow below.
Wilson Fisk is an adult male of immense size. He presents as composed and tightly
wound, as though he were constantly holding something back. He was abrupt and demanding and made it clear that, despite it being after hours, I would see him for a session.
Upon his arrival in my office, it was immediately clear he had recently experienced some severe physical trauma. He admitted that he had been stabbed by a sword. He refused the writer's repeated attempts to get him to seek medical help, claiming he had the wound looked at and it was healing. Fisk signed a waiver speaking to the fact that he rejected my advice to seek further medical assistance.
At this point, the client ordered me to be silent and began to explain what had happened to him and what he was planning. Evidently, Fisk found himself exonerated on any and all charges against him thanks to some legal maneuvering by Attorney Matthew Murdock, but had to leave the country. This, following the death of his wife Vanessa, left the client feeling purposeless. In an effort to make good on a lifetime of disappointing his wife, the client made no attempts to return to criminal life and instead made himself over as an "average man." He lived this way for several months, developing a romantic relationship with a woman and a paternal one with her children. Then, without warning
or provocation, his surrogate family was killed by something he called "
The Hand." This incident is where he received the injuries he was still clearly suffering from when he arrived in my office.
Following this woman and her children's death, the client has decided that there is no chance of him living a normal life. As such he now claims his only mission is to strike out at those who did this to him, to "reward" them for reawakening the Kingpin. The client then proceeded, in broad strokes, to tell me of his plan to return to New York City and to target the Hand and anyone else who might have been involved. He expressed several times that it did not matter if he lived or died and that it was his intent to ultimately not survive the confrontation. Throughout, he made several references to Murdock as well, linking him to the urban vigilante
Daredevil. He would describe the relationship the vigilante and the attorney have, only noting that they were "close, and the rest of it is no concern of yours."
Repeated attempts on this writer's part to redirect the client from this path were rejected. He refused to consult with the authorities or to agree to see me for at least another three months before following through with it. Similarly, he had no interest in the grief counseling or group therapy I suggested. At this time, he showed me his plane ticket and said that the plan was already in motion.
It was clear to me in that moment that this was an idle discussion and that the client had a plan and a means to carry out the plan. At this time, as is required by
Tarasoff v. Regents of the University of California, I attempted to keep Fisk in the office until the police could take him into custody. He quickly realized my intent and, being my physical superior, easily overwhelmed me and escaped. Local law enforcement was unable to find him.
Therefore, I send you this letter. It is clear to me from the discussion that, while not actively suicidal, the client is experiencing some suicidal ideation in the form of seeing his death at the end of "mission" as a natural (and therefore, desirable, end).
Additionally, he expressed clear homicidal ideation against members of the Hand. The writer also suspects that Murdock is in danger.
While it is unlikely that he will attend, I did make an appointment, with his consent for Fisk before he realized that I was attempting to keep him in the office until police could arrive. It is with Doctors Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark. The appointment is for April 22 and all the information pertaining to it can be found under the name DAREDEVIL #118. I urge you to take Wilson Fisk's plan seriously and to find and arrest him immediately. Failure to do so will prove fatal to many.
