Seventh issue added to Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr.'s Eternals
Posted: 2006-11-23 Updated: 2006-11-27 14:14:24 The proud news rings out from the hallowed halls of the House of Ideas: Marvel Comics is extending the currently-unfolding ETERNALS mini-series with a seventh issue, set to hi comic shops in February. ETERNALS, a re-imagining of Jack Kirby's classic saga, grows from a six-issue limited series to seven by expanding to include a fuller, even more exciting conclusion. Writer Neil Gaiman and artist John Romita Jr. let their creativity loose and allow the story more room to play out and come to a boil.
Editor Nick Lowe, pleased with the reaction to the mini-series, was more than glad to be able to go to seven issues. "When he was wrapping up issue #5, Neil decided there was just too much story to fit into the planned six issues. So, rather than try to squeeze, we wanted to give the story its proper room. Hence, the seventh issue.
"This will be a continuance of the story," he added. "And will, as all last issues should, be an end to the story."
Lowe was also adamant to point out that it is in the final two issues of the mini-series where the Eternals' place in the Marvel Universe will be solidified.
Jack Kirby's original story of alien gods and the machinations of more than one offshoot of the human race has been both honored and strengthened by Gaiman and Romita's ETERNALS mini-series. Fans and reviewers alike have given the title high marks and have been intrigued by its characters and deepening mysteries, some of which go back to the dawn of the human race on Earth…and beyond. Marvel hopes that readers of the series will be excited about the extra issue and eager to see the creative duo strut their stuff for a seventh time.
"Gaiman, Romita, and Lowe come to you and ask for an extra issue," says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada. "And there's only one answer: YES. I mean, could anybody say no to these guys…and ETERNALS? I think not!"
