For a guy with a rep as a loner, Wolverine sure seems to have plenty of friends.

Over the years, Logan has found spots on the rosters of Team X, Alpha Flight, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers and X-Force—just to name a few. The Marvel Universe's ultimate outside also happens to one of its best team players.

To delve into this seeming conundrum, we polled various Marvel creators and editors to learn which of Wolvie's associations they have most enjoyed, past and present.

It's Friday, so kick back, relax and enjoy.

Wolverine &
Kitty Pryde

FRED VAN LENTE (writer of MARVEL ZOMBIES 4): Not that I'm biased or anything, but of course the two-fer of him and Kitty Pryde in WOLVERINE: FIRST CLASS. It was only a matter of time before America's favorite Canadian and Jewish super heroes teamed up permanent-like. If there's a movie, David Cronenberg can direct.

LAUREN SANKOVITCH (Marvel assistant editor): Wolverine and Power Pack of course. All others pale in comparison.

KEVIN GREVIOUX (writer of ADAM: LEGEND OF THE BLUE MARVEL): I think first and foremost, Wolverine belongs in the X-Men. He represents the team's irreverent attitude and as such is the epicenter for so much of their characterization. However, I will say I kind of dig him on an Avengers team that represents Marvel's most popular characters too.

Wolverine &
Katie Power

DUANE SWIERCZYNSKI (writer of CABLE): Most fans won't remember this, but I'll always have a soft spot for the brief time Logan was teamed up with ABBA. Go on. Look it up.

MIKE PERKINS (artist of THE STAND: AMERICAN NIGHTMARES): Wolverine works so well on his own but if he has to work within a group I think that team is the Astonishing X-Men of the [Joss] Whedon and [John] Cassaday run. Failing that, one of my all time favorite issues [of UNCANNY X-MEN] was #205 when he fought alongside Katie Power. When I finally get my illustrative hands on Wolverine that Barry Windsor-Smith artwork is what I'll be attempting to surpass.

ROB LIEFELD (former writer/artist of X-FORCE): X-Men. Accept no substitutes

LEONARD KIRK (artist of CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI13): Well, I think the best possible team situation for Wolverine is, of course, the simplest, most rational and logical choice: Power Pack!

Wolverine &
Power Pack

I mean, you have a guy with giant steak knives coming out of his hands running around with small children. What's not to love? In the [WOLVERINE AND POWER PACK limited series], they wound up fighting a super villain at a museum, travelling through time and appearing on a Japanese game show, among other things.

Besides, I'm sure that this association did wonders for Wolverine's self esteem. It's the one time where he was the tallest member of the group.

STEVE WACKER (Marvel editor): For my money the best team Wolverine has ever been on was when he was in the Broadway cast of "The Boy From Oz"! That crazy Canuck can sure sing and dance!

PHIL JIMENEZ (artist of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN): For some reason, i always liked Wolverine when he'd interact with Power Pack. No, seriously—it was always interesting to see such a rough, edgy, violent character interact with children. How did he temper his anger? Did he dampen down his killing instincts? How did he explain to five-year-old

The X-Men

Katie Power why he did what he did to his enemies, and that to some, it was okay? Plus, it brought out the protector side of him—grizzled and old, but still a protector—an aspect of Wolverine that I love, and that gets lost in the obsession to keep him "bad ass."

RALPH MACCHIO (Marvel Senior Editor): I most enjoy Wolverine as a member of the X-Men team. He just doesn't work for me as part of any other group. He needs a true establishment figure to bounce off and Professor Xavier fits that bill so well. I've always felt that Hawkeye's tough exchanges with Captain America in the early days of the Avengers were the template for the Wolverine/Xavier relationship. For me, Wolvie is an X-Man and that's it.

I like seeing him function in a leadership role on X-Force. It's cool to see him work along side X-23.

But I'd love to see Wolverine lead Alpha Flight in their own book. I mean, after all, he's everywhere, right? No reason he can't be in Canada as well.
