THOR ANNUAL #1
Wounded, alone, down on his luck; Thor needs all the strength he can muster. Why? The God of Death seeks revenge on the God of Thunder and pity anyone who stands in his way!

The enmity between the Thor and Seth, the Serpent God of Heliopolis, stretches back years and burns to this day like the hottest of coals. But no more a war of waiting, Seth attacks in THOR ANNUAL #1, out September 16.

"Seth does have a big problem with Thor," explains writer Peter Milligan. "Thor stands for everything Seth despises. And on a more personal level, Seth blames Thor for the loss of his hand."

Desiring to crush all life in the universe, Seth's crimes against the living tower as an ominous ode to horror and death. Thousands of years ago he dismembered his own brother, Osiris, and imprisoned his mother; from that gambit he lost his hand to Odin, Thor's father. He then leveled his gaze on the World-Tree, Yggdrasil, and savagely attacked it, only to be driven off by the honorable Asgardians.

Thor vs Seth
Afterwards, Seth's evil deeds continued to mount: attacking Thor in his human guide as Don Blake, releasing the world-shattering Devourer, sending invasion forces to conquer Asgard, pilfering his fellow Heliopolians' powers and capturing Odin, and finally ascending to the throne of a beaten Asgard. Now, he once again schemes against his eternal adversary, Thor, as the Thunder God still staggers from events in his own ongoing title.

"Seth has been waiting a long time to strike at Thor," Milligan notes. "But he feels that now is the most propitious moment to attack and destroy his old enemy. In the Celestial City of Heliopolis, Seth has any number of powerful priest-visionaries tracking Thor.   One of these reports to Seth that Thor might be at his weakest after Thor killed his grandfather.

"[Thor's] at a dangerously low ebb when this story begins. The only thing that can aid him is his memory of who he is and where he comes from. And the advice of his alter ego."

Seth
Aiding Seth in this monumental act of malevolence in THOR ANNUAL #1 comes Grog, the Death God's long-time boot licker and known throughout the heavens as the God-Slayer-with good reason.

"Primarily he goes on the attack as a follower of Seth," says Milligan of Grog. "But his own turbulent personality and overheated ego take over. With Grog, it is always personal."

Alas, like other pantheons of celestial beings the Egyptian gods no longer prominently exist in mankind's favors, thus Seth and the horrible company he keeps should ultimately prove to be no real challenge for our beloved Thunder God-right?

Grog

"There is certainly a similarity [between the Egyptian and Norse gods] in that both are largely 'dead' religions," says Milligan. But though dead as far as large congregations of worshippers go, Seth and his hordes retain a lot of power. "They are waiting and biding their time, a long way from finished."
