This October, the rules of defending the supernatural have changed in a big way!
DOCTOR VOODOO: AVENGER OF THE SUPERNATURAL #1 kicks off a brand new ongoing series with an all-new Sorcerer Supreme and new threats to the mystic Marvel Universe! In the second installment of this three-part feature, Marvel.com gives you more behind-the-scenes info on this new series with commentary from writer Rick Remender. Yesterday we learned more about Jericho Drumm, aka Doctor Voodoo, and today we learn about his closest allies.
Marvel.com: Let's talk about some of the supporting characters in this series; who is Alexis and what does she mean to Jericho Drumm?
Rick Remender: Love interest and co-worker, never a simple situation. Jericho is trying to maintain his old life in the face of the terrible wave of evil he's fighting as Sorcerer Supreme.
Marvel.com: Speaking of his old life, Jericho's dead brother Daniel's spirit plays a pretty important role in this story, doesn't he?
Rick Remender: He plays a big role in the story. Daniel's great because he can possess people, and since he's a being of the spirit world he can delve into the realm of death, which is something Stephen Strange rejected or didn't do because of the dangers. Daniel adds a really interesting element to Jericho's character.
He and Jericho share a body so it's a unique relationship in that they are always together. They don't share all thoughts; there is a boundary between them. Daniel sometimes clearly resents Jericho, given all he's accomplished and all of the things Daniel himself wanted. But at the core of their bond they are dependant on each other and best friends.
Marvel.com: You mentioned Jericho using Daniel's spirit to do something that Doctor Strange wouldn't because of the dangers involved. Is Doctor Strange acting as a mentor to Jericho, guiding him as to what might be too dangerous to do?
Rick Remender: Between the last times we saw them in NEW AVENGERS and the first issue of DCOTOR VOODOO, Jericho has been under the tutelage of Stephen Strange. However, with all the amazing stuff Mark Waid has planned for Strange in his own series this November, Jericho is on his own.
Tomorrow we're back with the third and final part of Just Voodoo It, as Remender spills the beans on Doctor Voodoo's dangerous methods! Don't miss DOCTOR VOODOO: AVENGER OF THE SUPERNATURAL #1, on-sale October 7th!
