The Warriors Three: Fandral, Volstagg and Hogun

Are you waiting for the hammer to fall on the big screen (Mjolnir, that is)?! Of course you are and so are we!

When Thor makes his big screen debut on May 20, 2011, he'll have some company with him—as reported today by Variety.com!

Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg, longtime friends and fellow Asgardians who usually work together as a team known as the Warriors Three, are Thor’s allies and companions.

Fandral will be played by Stuart Townsend. The job of Hogun goes to Tadanobu Asano. And Volstagg will be portrayed Ray Stevenson.

They join the previously announced Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Kenneth Branagh will direct.

"Thor" is one of a continuing slate of films being produced by Marvel Studios based on the Marvel characters, including "Iron Man 2" on May 7, 2010, "The First Avenger: Captain America" on July 22, 2011 and "The Avengers" on May 4, 2012.

I think the casting is spot-on! I had to google Asano, but I think he and Townsend are perfect casting choices. Also, Stevenson seems like he could be a great "hammy" actor (no pun intended) for someone like Volstag. Gonna hafta get a fat suit on him, though. His performance in Punisher was horrific, but I've heard he was great in Rome. All he really has to do is be fat and jolly and always ready for a fight. How hard is that? Even if anyone has any problems with Stevenson, the rest of the casting should make up for it. The choices for Loki and Thor are PERFECT!! Also, on a side note I'm really excited to see that SLJ is reprising his role for Nick Fury in upcoming Marvel films. Ahhh. Now we wait... :juggernaut:

[quote@I_procastinate If u guys dont know Tadanobu Asano, watch the movie (Mongol) it came out 2008, awesomeeeeee!
. Yes, that was a badass movie! Im getting really excited about this movie. I have faith that Marvel knows what there doing with these casting choices... I cant wait to see what Asgard is going to look like, and im still hoping for Ulik and maybe a Surtur cameo... Thats probably wishful thinking though.

THIS IS AWESOME CASTING!!! I never would have thought about these guys but now that they've been picked for the roles of The Warrior's Three I can't imagine anything better. Now we will see how good Stuart Townsend is with a sword since he was originally cast for the role of Aragorn in the LOTR films b4 Viggo stepped in due to the need for a older looking Aragorn. Ray Stevenson? Can you say PUNISHER??? he was funny and fierce looking at the same time in the t.v. series ROME so i have no doubts about his ability to be a warrior and a jester all in one. Just slip in a fat suit and u got one mean looking meatball of heart and rage. Now the last and best casting for me would be the casting of Tadanobu Asano. I know you would say "Who the F#@c% is that guy??? I assure you he is one MEAN dude with a sword. Let him hold a katana and b4 you can say SayoNara your belt has been cut and a sword is already sticking inbetween your toes, just barely millimeters from cutting them. If you don't believe me check out the japanese movie "ZATOICHI" and see for yourself how bad ass he is. This is gonna be one hell of a wait for me and I hope for the best when we finally see this movie hit the screens on the 20th of May, 2011. VERILY!

Dashing, alright!I like Hogun, as well, and I saw him as a hun, or something like that, so an Asian actor fits well. And I am interested in what they'll do to make Volstagg voluminous! Because if they don't, well, he wouldn't be Volstagg, would he?

Why did they get an Asian guy to play Hogun? He's a Norse viking named Hogun – that's about as far away from Asian as you can get!

Ray Stevenson seems like a strange pick for Volstagg to me. They should have gotten someone like John Goodman.
