Marvel Studios announced today that Dominic Cooper has been cast to star as Howard Stark in the studio's highly anticipated movie "Captain America: The First Avenger" opposite Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan and Stanley Tucci.  In the film, Cooper will portray the younger version of Howard Stark, the character which John Slattery portrayed in "Iron Man 2."  Joe Johnston will direct the film penned by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige will produce "Captain America: The First Avenger." Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel, Nigel Gostelow and Louis D'Esposito will executive produce.  The film will be released in the U.S. on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Why did they not use the guy who spoke on video in the iron man movies? Continuity would be a good thing to keep here, nothing against this guy, I do not know him, and nothing for me in the same guy being used as from the IM movie, just think continuity is a real plus.I think Howard will be working on a formula to make the super soldier, I can not remember for certain but I think they may have mentioned his involvement in the Hulk movie.

Howard Stark is Tony's father. In the comics, he has nothing to do with Captain America or his shield. But in Hollywood tie-in land, he'll probably be Cap's uncle.

I'd say howard stark definately had something to do with the creation of Caps sheild. Tony Stark finds a half finished (prototype?) Cap sheild in his fathers junk and uses it to prop up some equipment in his workshop in Iron Man 2. Another version of the shield was seen for a second in Iron Man 1, which confuses the timeline a bit, but I'm sure they'll explain all. Or not.

Can someone tell me something?Do we have a blond Steve Rogers in this movie , because in FF Evans was a dark haired Johnny Storm? It will be cool to see a artist in a marvel movie colored with hair-color like the character he play.I would like to see him physically look like Steve Rogers and not dark haired like the new Cap(Bucky).

Just considered that maybe Howard will be responsible for the shield? (weapons expert no less)In the bios page for Steve Rogers it simply says that Franklin D Roosevelt presented the shield "of iron, Vibranium and an unknown catalyst." So they really could use a better history for that item.(as a sidenote, they revealed in Cable/Deadpool that Cable in fact wielded Caps shield in the ongoing battle against Apocalypse which occurred in the future where Cable was raised and forged into the soldier that his is today; I found that AMAZING! as Cable is in my top 5 super heros)My (Additional) Two Cents, G_R

I'm sure it's something like that, but maybe even more deep a connection will be made between Cap and old Shellhead. When you consider the revelations that came from Howard Stark in the video to Tony in the second Iron Man film, it opens up great possibilities for this character and what he's capable of accomplishing.Does anyone know if there was an actual connection between Howard Stark and Steve Rogers in the early years of Caps' storyline?I do think the guy they got to play Howard Stark looks the part of a predecessor to Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark though. (younger than Tony appears in the films even, which is an interesting twist)He does not however look much like the older Howard Stark from the Iron Man films in my humble opinion. (but who really cares right?)My Two Cents, G_R

Cool I wonder if Captian America and Howard Stark are going to best friends, so when the Avengers movie happens Iron Man and Captian America are going to have this sad scene with Rogers telling Tony "Your father was a great man.
