Stanley Tucci
There wouldn't be a Super Soldier serum without the scientist who invented it, now we have one!

Today, Marvel Studios announced that Oscar® nominated actor Stanley Tucci has been cast to star as Dr. Abraham Erskine in "Captain America: The First Avenger" opposite Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, and Hayley Atwell.

In the early comics, Dr. Erskine was a German scientist behind Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the Super Soldier known as Captain America. Joe Johnston will direct the film penned by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce "Captain America: The First Avenger." Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Louis D’Esposito will executive produce. The film will be released in the US on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

"Captain America: The First Avenger" will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.

Tucci’s credits include "Julie & Julia," Peter Jackson’s "The Lovely Bones," for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, and "The Devil Wears Prada." He can next be seen in the upcoming comedy "Easy A" as well as the upcoming movie musical "Burlesque."

In addition to "Captain America: The First Avenger," Marvel Studios most recently released the highly anticipated sequel, "Iron Man 2," starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow on May 7, 2010, and will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including, "Thor" on May 6, 2011, and "Marvel Studios' The Avengers" on May 4, 2012.

I don't mean to come off as an @*#@@&&! in regards co Chris Evans but, I DON'T WANT TO SEE HIM AS CAPTAIN AMERICA!!! as far as i'm concerned he had he chance in the spot light in the marvel universe as The Human Torch. Anyone recall Fantastic 4 part 1&2? Seriously I think we can do better than Chris Evans (no disrespect intended).... In my opinion I think they could find someone else and they should PERIOD..... (there's still plenty of time to find a replacement)

if you have only seen Evans the fantastic four then you don't know how well he can act..check out a little movie called London with him it...awesome and shows a great range as an actor..so ease up and give him a chance..

Jon Hamm of Mad Men would be perfect for the role of Cap. I think Chris Evans is a much better choice than Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise.

Look I'm not saying Chirs Evans is going to be a good Captian America and I was just like the rest of you guy's when I found out that Evans was going to play Captian AMERICA but we really can't judge the movie just yet if we didn't see him in Fanastic Four films nobody probably won't be saying nothing cause when we found out Robert Downey Jr was going to play Iron Man nobody went "all right he's playing Iron Man that is freaking cool" and when Michael Keaton was chosen for Bat-Man everybody got mad cause the last films he did were really funny and werid.

Oh I am not sure that is will be all that confusing for marvel fans. Here is a handy guide. Do you see Chris Evans? Yes. Is he on fire? Yes. Then he is Human Torch and you are watching your old Fantastic Four movies. If no is he throwing around a round shield? Yes. Then you are watching the new Captain America movie. I doubt seriously that this movie will be anything less than amazing.

I think Jason Stratham would be a better fit for the role! Movie makers need to pole the writers and fans of the comics for choice ideas before casting the roles.

I agree! I thougt of Jason Statham being Cap! He is certainly more physically and psycolically fit for the role! The movies need to pole the writers and fans of the comics for choice ideas!

Chris Evans was the only bright spot in otherwise poorly cast and dismally realized Fantastic Four movies. He was not an obvious choice to play Cap, but I had my doubts about Christian Bale as Batman until I saw him in the role. Marvel seems to know how to handle their characters in film, as evinced by Iron Man. I think Chris Evans will be great in the role.

things can only get better after they crapped on cap by giving that flamer evans the role

My thoughts about the casting really boils down to this, Marvel Studios did NOT produce the FF movies, 20th Century Fox did. Now, that being said, I agree with rhandie29 that it might confuse fans of Marvel.

That's Disney for ya, never puttin' too much thought into what they do creatively; only financially. I'm thinking after I watch this movie, I'll suddenly become a fan of the 1990 Matt Salinger version.

Considering that those two FF movies were garbage. I don't think anyone will mind another actor playing the Human Torch in future marvel movies.

I don't have any violent reactions for picking Chris Evans as Captain America, but this will only confuse people who are continuing to follow every Marvel movies that are being filmed. As we all know, Evans already played a role as the Marvel Super Hero Human Torch at the movies Fantastic 4 part 1 and 2. SO this marks him as the actor who IS/WAS Human Torch, and HT is not just a small character in the Marvel Universe. So having Evans as the Captain America for me, is not a good option. It is OK to change actors on a previous film, but having the same actor playing the role of 2 different MAJOR characters on a same UNIVERSE is definitely not a good decision.
