Some guys dream and others make their dreams come true.

Shane Mahan, Physical Suit Effects Supervisor for "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2," definitely falls into the latter category. In fact, Tony Stark couldn't live without the amazing armorer.

Mahan's list of creative credits in film and television stretch from here to the horizon, but it's his incredible armor designs on the two Iron Man feature films that excited a legion of fans and even garnered him and his effects team an Academy Award nomination. Pretty good for a kid from Michigan who honed his craft with the legendary Stan Winston and fosters that master effects artist's legacy to this day.

To celebrate the release of "Iron Man 2" on DVD and Blu-Ray, we checked in with Mahan for a few brief words on the blockbuster sequel and its stunning suits of power.

Marvel.com: With your armor designs in place from the first "Iron Man" feature, what were your marching orders for the "Iron Man 2" designs? What was the goal with the new film?

Shane Mahan: Much more movement ability built into each suit design. This means the placement of jointed areas and recessed sections on the surfaces for access of suit intersection.

Plus for me and my team we needed to make the suits lighter and more comfortable for the actors.

Marvel.com: How much of the actual Iron Man comic book armor designs figured into your work on the film? What inspiration did you draw from them?

Shane Mahan - I would say that the comics provide all the general information. Then, [fellow designer] Ryan Meinerding modified the forms based on Marvel and ["Iron Man 2" director] Jon Favreau's taste.

Marvel.com: Do you have a favorite from among the many comic book Iron Man armor designs?

Shane Mahan: I actually don't have a favorite. I enjoy the comics for comics and the films for the films...both offer great personal entertainment and a sense of escapist fun.

Marvel: Shane, you've lived the dream of any kid who's ever scribbled out a super hero drawing to see it on the big screen or in a comic book--how's that feel? What's it like to see something you've designed take on larger-than-life proportions?

Shane Mahan: For me it's a great sense of accomplishment when the final result serves the film and the audience loves it, whatever it may be. I think the Iron Man films have had a great influence on the current comic book suits and changed how we the designers approach new suit ideas and creations.
