Chris Evans is gearing up for a second go-round in a super hero flick. In the mid-2000s, he was Johnny Storm/Human Torch in two Fantastic Four films, and when “Captain America: The First Avenger” opens nationwide in theaters on July 22, he’ll portray the title role of Steve Rogers/Captain America.

While being cast as two super heroes--including one of the most iconic figures in comic book history--could easily inflate some guys’ heads to Hulkish proportions, it actually made Evans uncomfortable.

“Deciding to do ‘Captain America’ was nerve-wracking…[since] I wasn’t sure how people would react that I was doing the super hero thing again,” Evans told Marvel.com. “Plus, I had found a happy medium where I still had a life in this profession and didn’t have the paparazzi following me. So this movie was a potential game changer…but when I let go and just went for it, it became fun. I wore the Captain America suit--it was ridiculous! I was like a kid all over again.”

The suit would not be the exact replica of the one seen in the pages of the comics. Director Joe Johnston didn’t hit the reset button completely, but the redesign was grittier, baggier, and a more realistic interpretation of how a Super Solider might look back in the 1940s and '50s.

“I had trouble with the fly,” Evans admitted. “But the suit felt fantastic, and I loved it. I never wanted to take it off.”

Diehards, fear not. The mainstays to Cap’s duds are still there: the red, white, and blue color scheme, the wings emblazoned on his mask near the temples, and, of course, the trademark shield.

“There [were] a bunch of different shields,” Evans said. “Some are real heavy, legit shields that look fantastic on film; some are a little rubbery for when you’re doing dangerous stuff and you don’t want to get hit in the face.”

"Captain America: The First Avenger" will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.  As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).
