Ian McKellen as Magneto in "X2"

Dearest X-Men fanatics, we have X-cellent news for all of you--director Bryan Singer announced earlier today that Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are set to reprise their roles as Magneto and Professor X in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," hitting theaters everywhere July 18, 2014!

Singer also announced that McKellen and Stewart will join returning cast members James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and Nicholas Hoult (Beast), all of whom appeared in last year's "X-Men: First Class."

McKellen and Stewart previously portrayed Magneto and Professor X in "X-Men," "X2" and "X-Men: The Last Stand," while Stewart also reprised the role for a cameo in "X-Men Origins: Wovlerine."

I am glad Bryan Singer is on board once again. All the X-men movies that he was involved with turned out quite successfully, including X-men First Class which he did not direct but was a producer. His X-movies have a unique signature quality which I can only describe as a contained brooding tension that seems to want to emotionally ignite. He also has the ability to make fantastical plots seem more realistic and believable. I think these elements were what we missed in the one X-movie he was not a part of: X-men 3 The Last Stand.

This is actually great news. Does no one remember how AMAZING X-Men 2: X-Men United was? And Brian Singer was responsible for that! This is awesome.

I really hope we get some epic, paradox defying time travel sequences and not just lame-o flashbacks/flashforwards.
