Marvel's "Ant-Man" has found its hero in Paul Rudd, who will star in the new film from director Edgar Wright hitting theaters July 31, 2015!

The casting of Rudd represents the actor that Marvel and Wright had long ago identified as its first choice to play Ant-Man, continuing the studio's desire to cast actors that bring several dimensions to its onscreen heroes.  The film's plot is being kept under wraps.

"We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we'd found the right guy." - Marvel Studios president Kevin feige
"When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star," said Marvel's Kevin Feige. "We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we'd found the right guy. We couldn't be more excited for our audiences to see what he's going to do to bring Ant-Man to life."

Rudd brings a diverse background to the role having become one of the industry's most known actors with a reputation for smart, funny and creative performances.  Rudd can currently be seen in "Anchor Man 2: The Legend Continues," as well as past roles in "Anchorman," "This Is 40," "I Love You, Man," "Role Models," "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Our Idiot Brother," "Knocked Up," and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" among numerous other films, television shows and primetime animation.

In addition to "Ant-Man," Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" on April 4, 2014; "Guardians of the Galaxy" on August 1, 2014; and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" on May 1, 2015.

this movie will be a waste. Thanks for ruining marvel history of ant man.

Thanks Marvel. I didn't know Ant-Man was a comedic super spy.

I guess Hank Pym the flawed human being with a super hero identity crisis, marital problems, and yet genius scientIst, creator of Ultron and original founding member of The Avengers doesn't matter anymore.

Thanks Marvel for taking the original and longest serving Ant-Man / Avenger, a Sci-Fi action super hero, a peer of Iron Man whose intelligence rivals if not exceeds that of Tony Stark and turning him into a joke.

I couldn't care less for the character of Scott Lang. His leGacy is pretty short lived when compared to the rich history of Hank Pym & Janet Van Dyne.

But Marvel know what they're doing with their alternate reimaginings. They're laughing all the way to the bank with a far out edgy British comedy director, comedy actor in the lead role and a 60's super spy heist scenario - Austin Powers anyone???

Comics are entertainment. I've been reading them since my childhood. I love the drama, action, suspense, fun and humor in well balanced story telling.

Unfortunately since Iron Man 3 it seems to me that Marvel / Disney are more focussed on comedy-centric films with a lot less of a balance on mature, dramatic story telling.

So with Edgar Wright at the helm, are we in for more of a "dramedy" with Ant Man?

It just makes me cringe, somebody shoot me i was looking forward to patrick wilson, simon baker or nathan fillion, either one of the three be cast as Hank Pym so this just makes me hurl and makes me want to boycott any and all marvel entertainment. i have been reading marvel since 1990. only consolation was steve rogers resembling his comic 616 counterpart in the new Winter Soldier movie.

v What Johnny said, AVENGERS: Age of Ultron needs a cameo of Hank, even if its just a few seconds/minute, just for his connection with Ultron.... If it ends up a STARK thing, well gonna be very unhappy, like millions of many others. Rudd will be amazing as Ant-Man, perfect casting.

Perhaps Ant-Man will cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron as the creator of Ultron and Marvel will use this as a means to introduce him and as a foundation to launch the Ant-Man movie.

Actually there are three major Ant-Men: Hank Pym, Scott Lang, and Eric O'Grady...the news story does not specify which Ant Guy it will be...or if all three will appear.

@le.meneghini Since u have not seen the movie yet I will take ur opinion with the amount of respect it is due....very little. I did not think Marvel could make a good Thor movie or Captain America movie. I was pleasantly surprised.Based on  all their movies so far Marvel deserves my informed opinion of it's movies.Guardians of the Galaxy looks totally insane and awesome. Do I agonize over changes to comics story or characters?  I wait till I see the damn movie before I complain or rave about it.

@Magnetic_Eye Yeah Winter Soldier was a slapstick farce of a screwball comedy... please mature dramatic storytelling in a comic book movie is only believable when comedy is sparingly used to contrast with the angst of  the end of the world.

Rumor is this wont be the Hank pym ant man but scott lang or the most recent version from secret avengers... Anyway, rudd has the comic chops to pull off a less than altruistic ant man...

@kehvanNo he wont be in the film...Ant Man will debut after Age of Ultron and Pym will not be the one who creates Ultron in the movies.

@kehvan no i think marvel has said that hank pym won't be on film till after avengers age of ultron because they are starting their phase 3 with ant-man movie. from what I've been told they will change or alter the origin of Ultron because of this.

A cameo at best cus they already said Pym won't be the creator of ultron in the movie

@geekingoutI never said "Winter Soldier" was a slapstick farce of a screwball comedy. If you looked at the date of my post you would see that I posted on JAN 27th which was before the release of "The Winter Soldier".  My main criticism was against the amount of comedy in Iron Man 3 which I thought was too much, but also other Marvel films in general.

I do agree about comedy being sparingly used. I did see "The Winter Soldier" last week and IMO, I think it's Marvel Studios best film to date. I thought Joe & Anthony Russo did an amazing job directing an action packed thriller. It was an intense ride and the film's pace was very well executed.

Can't wait for "Guardians Of The Galaxy". The trailer does indeed look totally awesome.

@irwilz @kehvan -- How do you know they're not just trying to throw you off the trail?

kehvan
kehvan

@xsparta71x @kehvan -- Well, from what I'm reading about the comic, Ant-Man didn't even know he was the original creator of Ultron, because Ultron was able to erase his memory of doing so... It just seems to me the timing of the release of the new Avengers movie, and then just 2 months later the release of Ant-Man, the creator of Ultron in the comics, just seems WAY too coincidental to me... I think the we're in for a surprise.

That would kill the essence of Hank PYM's scientific creativity.

@Magnetic_Eye @geekingout It was hyperbole.  IMO i agree about CATWS. I am going to all Marvel movies cause I end up loving their movies. How they made Captain America such an action junkie"s dream come true I do not know. They got magic in a bottle right now. Ant Man and GOTG really geeking me out.
