From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team--the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits--Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand--with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which first appeared in comic books in MARVEL SUPER-HEROES #18 (Jan. 1969), stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector.

James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige producing, and Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" releases in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2014.

In addition to "Guardians of the Galaxy," Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" on April 4, 2014; "Avengers: Age of Ultron" on May 1, 2015; and "Ant-Man" on July 17, 2015.

though it looks cool, i have to say that SHIP the starlords living ship would have never let the people in the temple capture him, she would have alerted him first and helped him get out of this situation.

Saw this trailer (pretty close) at the sneak at NYCC October of 2013 to standing ovation and demand it be shown again!  Amazing trailer that should make believers of all the doubters....can't wait for this to open.   Congrats to all involved.

The trailer is just super bold as to what people can expect the tone of the movie to be. Its not misleading. These are the "Guardians of the Galaxy" and not the "Avengers" and thats what I love! These guys take on a role so grandiose that the universe makes fun of them and vastly UNDERESTIMATES them. I mean, how many have been "offed" by Rocket because they were distracted by how small and cuddly he looked?? He is the embodiment of what this team represents. The message in that alone will be inspirational to people who feel like they have something to offer but never taken seriously in life.

On a side note- I'm very curious to see how this movie will have an impact on future Marvel movies in this shared universe. I would love to see a brief Thor cameo...

It seems like it has really captured the flavor of the actual comic it's based on, irreverent and fun. I cannot wait!

Looks great to me!  It looks like it's going to have a lot of the same mix of humor and drama that made the original Iron Man film such a success.

Also, since this trailer premiered during "Jimmy Kimmel Live" then of course it's going to play up more of the comedic elements of the story.  I'm sure we'll get a more serious trailers soon enough.

I was skeptical, but now I'm getting amped! Such a great trailer for an audience who would be unfamiliar with these characters. Totally reminds me of a blend between Serenity and Star Wars with a little Indiana Jones. Chris Pratt has become my latest favourite actor and I cant wait to see him in JurAssic World.

I thought it would be more serious. I still love the comedy.

It looks amazing.  And I think it's the first movie that will appeal to non-comic fans first.  The best trailer I've seen all year for anything.

And I hate when people equate drama with 'serious' and comedy with 'non-serious'.  As if a dramatic work was a serious film endeavor and a comedic work was a just a bunch of friends making a youtube video together.

What makes a piece of work a 'comedy' and what makes it a 'drama' is a much longer discussion.  But that this show has comedic elements is great and makes me look forward to it even more.  There's too many crappy dramas out there that think they can skate by with some onscreen human tragedy and some gun battles.

Everyone thinks they want a Batman film, all dark and serious and brooding.  But then you make Green Lantern and have this earnest serious tone and it blows.  Christopher Nolan has more to do with Batman being good than the fact it's a drama.

I think this is going to be killer.  And it might out-Star Wars the new Star Wars.  A new updated space opera with cowboy elements?  Looks killer to me.  I can't wait to see more trailers.

Interesting. I like the comedy aspect, but I don't know if this will sell the movie to non-comic fans.

@GuyMayhem  I agree with you, but I must point out, Green Lantern was not really a serious film. It tried to do something like Iron Man, but failed miserably.

@beeaey ronan is in the trailer as the cloaked guy holding up drax.  if you stop in it, you can see the hammer, but not his face.

So far it seems to be winning a lot of non comic fans over according to comments made in Youtube on the Jimmy Kimmel channel. I think this is a sci-fi film everyone has been waiting for without knowing it.

I LOVED the interaction between Tony and Rocket Raccoon! They did such a good job threading Tony into a more galactic role. Although I am still sitting on the fence about the story of his secret origin... I don't think I've been as shocked about an origin since Wolverines origin was finally revealed.

Marvel- you have sucH a great team of story tellers. I would love to see Secret Invasion find a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Maybe a skrull discovery being made in Agents of SHIELD and going bigger into an Avengers movie or having it collide into a Guardians sequel.

How cool would it be if Star-Lord made an appearance in SHIELD?

@Awakendx @beeaey  right. went back to see it and that was realllllly a tease, haha.

i read an article from total film where james gunn mentioned that he'd save ronan, yondu, and glen close's nova prime in the second trailer dropping around the same time as cap: winter soldier.
