Marvel's Kevin Feige to Produce Next Installment of the Spider-Man Franchise with Amy Pascal
(Culver City, California, and Burbank, California February 09, 2015) – Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.
Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.
Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.
The new relationship follows a decade of speculation among fans about whether Spider-Man – who has always been an integral and important part of the larger Marvel Universe in the comic books – could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen. Spider-Man has more than 50 years of history in Marvel's world, and with this deal, fans will be able to experience Spider-Man taking his rightful place among other Super Heroes in the MCU.
Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company said: "Spider-Man is one of Marvel's great characters, beloved around the world. We're thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building."
"We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. "This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans."
"Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future," added Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.
"I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie," said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. "Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel's involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years."
Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

No reeboots! Keep Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man! And found new Mary Jane - better than Kirsten Dunst! Please!
Andrew is the best Spider-Man ever!
Steven Yeun has to be a prime candidate. The best Peter Parker imaginable.
I just want to peter back.I am not racist .Peter is a legend.And legends don't die
Does anyone else remember the rumors going around in the early-to-mid nineties about a Spider-Man movie starring Michael Biehn? or did I just imagine that?
Just...please...not another re-boot.
I think it would be awesome if at the end of age of ultron they do a spidey post credit sequence. Like first shot would be a very close up shot of a spiders face and it slowly zooms out. You then see the spider slowly decending from a web on a ceiling(maybe some suspenseful music playing) maybe the camera cuts to an above view of what looks to be Peter Parker from the spiders own point of view. And then to end the sequence nice and quick the spider lands on his hand and right before it bites him the screen cuts to black and you hear a very subtle "ahh" indicating that he was indeed bit. This would avoid the need for marvel/Sony to do a origin story again and also get the Spider-Man fans excited and pumped up that he is indeed apart of the mcu. I think it would be very smart to skip the origin story but still keep him a relatively new Spider-Man. Doing this would help explain why he wasn't there during the chitauri attack on New York because it would simply mean that he did not have his powers yet. I think it's a pretty awesome way and easy way to introduce our beloved Spider-Man to the Mcu
#KeepAndrewGarfield as #SpiderMan PLEASE!!!
Keep Peter Parker and never include Avi Arad in the project, please.
Ever Again.
No Tobey and no Garfield as well....
We.... The Fans.
I don't mind if there's a recast for the main role but JUST KEEP PETER PARKER PLEASE !!! Thanks!
Please get back to roots and use a blond actor as Peter Parker
I Am honestly so happy spidey is Finialy gOing back to marvel and when i Found out about the avengers i was Extremely excited. HowEver im so so Disappointed in starting from scratch Like this. Andrew Was the pErfect sPiderman!! Also it is very unprofessional and just overall DissapOinting for You to just end the series right in the Middle. They had So many plans for him and now nothing. I also feel Bad for andrew he wanted to pLay SpiDey his whole life and Just Because some money-hungry people have more poWer they just fired him for whAt???? Oh yeah nothing! He doeSnt Deserve this. In my opinion, andrew was the perfect nerdy but sarcaStic miX. And im Just overall really, really disappointed and plain sad.
Sweet. Really excited about this news and Spidey finally stepping into the MCU, as well as all the possibilities of new cinematic storylines that are possible now that the larger Marvel world is open to him. I know no one will read this but I must also echo my disappointment in Andrew Garfield not reprising the role. Reading the books in the '90s and early 2000s, Garfield's performance WAS Spidey in my book. The regular guy, well-meaning but sometimes brash and makes mistakes... awkward but not a spaz, nerdy but also very quick-witted and funny. I think he resembled the iconic Spidey on screen as much as RDJ did Iron Man. I do understand that as this is a new iteration/interpretation of the character, it might be necessary to start over, and with a younger actor, and will be cautiously optimistic about the new actor interpreting the webslinger. Speaking of younger actor, I also think that highschool cinematic Peter has gotten stale and that young adult college-aged 20 something Peter will open up an amazing array of new possible storylines. You can have the inexperience and youthfulness that the school environment still brings, but also have so much more open to him with adult dilemmas like paying bills, job hunting and relationships. I also think this would be a great idea to bring in some relatively new elements to Spidey that hasn't been covered cinematically before such as Horizon Labs, etc.
With all that said, I'm still pretty excited with where Spidey films go in the future, and I'll be buying tickets whichever path you guys choose to put him on. Can't wait to see Spidey reinterpreted for the new generation, as part of the greater cinematic Marvel universe. Hope you guys do justice to the character that's inspired me for a great part of my life.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGGGGGG ITS ABOUT TIME SPIDER-MAN IS BACK HOME WITH IT'S RIGHTFUL OWNER!!! I CAN FINALLY GO TO THE MOVIE AND SEE SPIDER-MAN MEET THE AVENGER IN THE SAME UNIVERSE! I'm Crying right now with the Tears of JOY. :D
hay someone ask Kevin Feige and the higher ups at marvel if ghost rider will get in the mcu.
this is the sickest joke in the world!!!! ANDREW GARFIELD not playing spiderman What the hell?!?! Half way through a movie series you dont find a new lead that it the stupidest thing ever! Its not as stuid as the directors though! They are totally idiots!!!!!!! I-d-i-O-t-s idiots!!!! I have lost full reSpect for marvel now!!! And sdIperman isnt a marvel so leave it that way!!!!! You cant change what stan lee wrote!!!!!! This all better be a sick sick sick sick sick joke other wiSe marvel movies just became the stupiDest things ever!!!!!
Stan lee im sorry marvel are idiots you wrote amazing comics And they murdered them!!!!!
The end credit scene for 'Age of Ultron' should be of Peter Parker getting bitten...
That way we sort of see his origin story going on in the background leading up to 'Civil War'.
thank yoouuuuuuuuuiii
About time they got him back. i know now they gonna do him justice. they need an actor that can fit right with the mcu and i dont think having him in cap 3 is good idea especially they already announced black panthers first appearance for cap 3. i can see more of an easter egg being mentioned but not in avengers age of ultron more likely in cap 3 but not an appearance unless its an after credits scene. spidey hasnt even been mentioned in the mcu it would be wierd to just bring him out in the middle of civil war so ican see him coming out after but who knows the mcu is full of surprises but either way its gonna be good and i know i wont be disappointed it hasnt happened yet.
so what movie will he first be in? cap 3? and they should like mention him as an easter egg in the age of ultron!
Who should be Spider-Man's love interest in the new film?
a) Mary Jane Watson
b) Gwen Stacy
c) Felicia Hardy (Black Cat)
d) Betty Brant
e) Cindy Moon (Silk)
f) Other...
wow thats awesome I didnt think they would keep Garfield but I guess they are after this video
@emor02 all of them
@emor02 all!!!
@fajnamasztwarz it is not a reboot
@fajnamasztwarz I always thought Emma Stone was the perfect Mary Jane, then they made her Gwen Stacy.
@arda_bektas No way they going to use Miles one when Peter was the first Spider-Man, that's like having USAgent before Captain America?
@P-90 I remember something like that, it was a James Cameron project at one time, guess we'll never know how cool or not so good it could've turned out?
@Innershade Exactly.
@SpiderManMike 5 SAME
Sony did change a LOT of the Villains in to something Terrible!! Like Electro, Rhino, and a bit of Green Goblin. Maybe Marvel will stick with the Classic Spider-Man story line that I LOVE!!! That's just my opinion, whats yours? :3
@Andrewgarfieldxoxo You Misspelled SOOO many things, Its a bit SAD in your Part. I do Love Andrew Garfield in Spider man but Just think of Spider Man and the Avengers in the SAME Universe.
@CAL5 Rather not, personally that is a worst idea ever, wanna feel like Spidey's been around for a bit just like The Avengers have. How about a flashback in the movie about his past rather than have it happen during Civil War??
@CAL5 a really cool end credits scene would be a kid or a teenager watching on the news some report about the destruction wrought from avengers age of ultron, the camera shooting him from behind watching the report. Then as the music gets and we here may call out "peter" and then the camera circles around to show him and he says "coming". Then, as he's running downstairs, the camera focuses on a spider in the background. That would be awesome.
@lj4life Agreed 100%
@lj4life "Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017" So he'll FIRST appear in a Marvel film then in his own film July 2017, but what other film is coming out between now and July 2017? It's either Age Of Ultron (highly doubtful even as a post-credits), Ant-Man (also only post-credits scene, but possible), Cap 3 (script written but nothing filmed and also very important role waiting for him), Dr. Strange (doesn't seem like the right fit) and Guardians 2 (also not a good fit). Unless they're using their first shot at Spidey as a post credits scene, Cap 3 is really the best and most logical option. It would also give Cap that push to break the 1 billion dollar mark, joining IM 3 and Avengers.
@emor02 Peter with anyone other than MJ just doesn't feel right to me.
@emor02 black cat!
@emor02 Well he has to be reboot since first Avengers in New York happen; Unless he flew to Florida for the Daily Bugle assignment to take pictures of a lizard man rumored like in ASM issue 6. Which he could be with Betty Brant before Gwen Stacy. Which I believe they going for a younger Peter Parker. Though I am a fan of Andrew Garfield acting as spider-man which reminded me of Mark Bagley and David Michelinie version.
I think Gwen Stacy
@Punisher-777 I don't think so... Gwen was the first love of Peter, Andrew & Emma show us true love - just like in title: the amazing! Anyway, Emma was Gwen, so Mary Jane have to play someone else.
Instead of making a stupid reboot and go back to where we were already in the first part - you really want to go back instead of going forward?! You have so many options! For example: make good use of clones Gwen!Make good use of the potential of the actors: Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone!
@SpiderManMike 5 @Andrewgarfieldxoxo I can understand your pain but,,,
I thought Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a sick joke?
@CAL5 I mean Age of Ultron.
@Shadobi @emor02 J.K. Simmons for JJJ, bring him back, who's with me?!?
@Punisher-777 I think if you were to put a Spider-Man flashback (essentially an origin story) into an already complex movie like 'Age of Ultron'/'Civil War' it would become far too convoluted. By adding his origin into an end credit scene of 'Age of Ultron' for example, it introduces his character gradually, not dissimilar to how the Twins were introduced. As for his late introduction, this would be the most logical approach as he wasn't present in New York (his home town) fighting with the team in 'Avengers'.
