Third X-flick Storms to Big Numbers
Posted: 2006-06-14 Updated: 2007-08-27 12:21:32 The third movie in the X-Men series has stormed the box office and has now pulled in more than $200 million in the U.S. and nearly $350 million worldwide. After its third week at the box office, X-Men: The Last Stand clawed past Ice Age 2 to become the top-grossing film of 2006 in the U.S. and third highest grossing film worldwide. More intriguingly is that despite having opened in fewer theaters than any of the other top five films so far this year, X-Men: The Last Stand has achieved its incredible financial success in less than a month and is the only film this year to surpass $200 million!
X2: X-Men United, the previous X-film, brought in approximately $215 million during its entire 21-week tenure at the box office, making it clear that this latest chapter in the Marvel mutant cinematic saga should handily eclipse its predecessor in a fraction of the time . . . a feat that would boggle even the mind of Professor X.
