Secret History of the Avengers

Untitled Image

By TJ Dietsch

Brought together by Loki and a group of teenagers with a radio, Iron Man, Ant-Man, the Wasp, Thor and the Hulk may have been the very first Avengers, but they certainly wouldn't be the last.

Since their debut, the Avengers have gone through all kinds of changes in both status and membership, but the basic idea has always remained: upholding justice and avenging wrongs in the face of evil. But what about that initial meeting? What really went down? That's the question writer Joe Casey will be exploring in AVENGERS: THE ORIGIN, a five-issue limited series debuting in April with artist Phil Noto.

No stranger to the Marvel Universe's premiere team after his work on AVENGERS: EARTH'S MIGHTIEST HEROES and its sequel, Casey had little problem getting back into the game.

"Writing this series was like sliding into a warm bath," he shares.

But don't expect to have as relaxing an experience reading AVENGERS: THE ORIGIN as Casey had writing it. In fact, the writer touts some major reveals:

"The series only deals with the actual formation of the team, but we're revealing a lot of previously unknown secrets about exactly how it all came to pass-secrets that will make Avengers' fans literally wet themselves."

When pressed for further information, Casey remained coy, only offering a joke about Thor being the Marvel Universe's first alcoholic. He did however comment, on how THE ORIGIN will reflect on the Avengers current status: "This story is drowning in modern resonance."

Aside from the original Avengers themselves, Rick Jones and Loki, Casey promises plenty of other familiar faces including the aforementioned radio-loving Teen Brigade.

:829addf4ed="silentprocess"]Personally I think this is a dumb idea and the past should be left alone. How many times do you have to go back and "alter" the past to make things in the future "fit"? Just leave the past alone, I for one like the origins of my characters the way they are. Instead of rewriting the past why can't you just focus on writing good, character developing stories now? I ...
