Heralds: Woman Power

Heroes come together in all kinds of ways. The Fantastic Four wanted to see space, the Avengers assembled thanks to a Loki-altered Teen Brigade radio message and the women in the upcoming weekly five-issue limited series HERALDS must team to address to a cosmic threat circumstances and fate drop in their collective lap.

Emma Frost, She-Hulk, Hellcat, Valkyrie, Monica Rambeau and Abigail Brand will be teaming up to take on a long-lost herald of Galactus who's returning to Earth and looking for revenge on the people she thinks abandoned her.

"When [editor] Jeanine [Schaefer] and I first started talking about this project, we started throwing out names of female characters that we were either interested in taking a look at, or who fit certain parameters in terms of the story we were discussing," explains Immonen. "For me, Hellcat was always top of the list. Beyond that though, it ranged from the obscure to the obvious. And what we ended up with is a group that, on balance, is not

well-acquainted. One of my all time favorite relationships is Hellcat and Valkyrie, but it's a Valkyrie that doesn't exist any more.  That can't be easy for either of them. In the end, I think we succeeded in coming up with a group that is well-balanced in terms of their personalities and powers, [which] embraces the slightly goofy and the completely glorious, and is built to defeat both expectations and violent attackers."

But HERALDS doesn't solely revolve around heroes doing battle with Power Cosmic-imbued revenge-seekers, there's also a human aspect to the story which Immonen enjoyed equally.

"[There is] a roadside diner waitress who's going to have to learn to fight above her weight whether she wants to or not and right now it's a resounding not," she says. "She's quickly become a favorite of mine. I think, at the heart of this series, are issues involving how we change over time-by choice or by chance-and what that does to the people who love us.  And how the move into and out of the super-powered life is characterized as much by what you lose as what you gain."

With such a variety of subject matter from the everyday to the cosmic, Immonen needed an artist who could handle such diverse subject matter. Tonci Zonjic fulfills and exceeds all the requirements.

"I'm a huge fan of his," Immonen expresses. "I really liked his work on MARVEL DIVAS and was all over it when Jeanine said he was on board. The conversation he and I are having is all on the page and the result is gorgeous and lively. I guess it's working out!"

This definately would be a good all woman super team. Keep thinking it. I like the idea of the x-ladies being on the team, especially psyloche. She'd make a good team leader.

:norinradd: I would love to see Scarlet Witch make a return for this occasion. Her magic, Emma's telepathy, and Val's (and She-Hulk's) power would make a nice balance. Plus, she brings a cosmic dimension to the team that some of the others lack.

:af7b692d95="bds197485"]Give the team some brunt force. Put She Hulk or Banner's daughter on the team too.[/quote:af7b692d95]They've got Valkyrie for that, and I think the cover artwork also has Jen Walters somewhere up in the mix. You may have missed that.Yeah, I think they were referring to Nova (Frankie Raye), but I am a big supporter of an Asgard-energy-fueled, Valkyrie-like, Wasp (Janet) ...

So is Nova (Frankie Raye) coming back and angry at everyone? I wanna see how they bring her back. Maybe its Wasp? PLEEEEASE BE WASP!! Why isn't Valkyrie the Val we know? Because of the rebirth of Asgard? But she was the same Val in HULK. I dont get it. But yay for Hellcat!! I wanna see how Emma is going to end up interacting with these no-nonsense women. She better not be all "Yay! Girl Power!"...
