Award-winning writer Ed Brubaker and artist Dale Eaglesham of FANTASTIC FOUR join forces this July to debut a new life, a new role and a new mission for the man formerly known as Captain America.
STEVE ROGERS: SUPER-SOLDIER, a four-issue limited series, reintroduces one of Marvel's longest-running characters in an entirely new light. No longer Captain America and with his old sidekick wielding the famous shield, Steve Rogers must forge ahead and carve out a new place for himself in the Marvel Universe.

"It felt like Bucky was doing a great job as Cap, fans dig him in the role [and] I enjoy writing him as Cap," he says. "And it occurred to me that Steve was going to get put through the wringer on his way back to the present, and may have reasons for not wanting to put the Cap uniform back on and go all public for a while, if not forever."
Those reasons remain classified information for now, but conjure up questions concerning Rogers' long-time career as Captain America, his brief sojourn as
"You'll have to read SUPER-SOLDIER to find out," Brubaker suggests. "Those questions are part of his journey, things he has to ask himself."
Steve Rogers does not exist in a vacuum, of course, and the Marvel Universe's reaction to his new mission may prove to be significantly different than their attitude towards his previous one.

Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of STEVE ROGERS: SUPER-SOLDIER may come in waiting to see if Steve takes on a new look or codename. Brubaker says that too will be revealed in the series.
"Definitely a new outfit, one that more suits his current role," he promises. "But most people are just calling him 'Steve' so far."

It's been.. 15 minutes since my last comment and had time to think about a few things. If Steve Rogers is no longer Captain America, perhaps I wouldn't quit on Steve, if his stories are great and actually goes around the world for missions but he has to have a Shield of some kind (material or electronic gizmo Stark or Black Panther could design). Like they used to say in the 80's... Make ...

Well I've been collecting the Captain America title since 1986, when Johnny Walker was Captain America and took me a while to get accustomed to Steve Rogers as the real Cap. Since then, of course Captain America is Steve Rogers and today I finally told my local comic dealer to no longer keep any Captain America titles for me. I like Bucky but I don't like the idea of spending money seing him as Captain America and letting Steve Rogers do his little thing with the Avengers. I will look into the new Steve Rogers: Super-Soldier but if things don't get better, I'll either look for another title or call my comic collecting days over.. at 34years of age :)

I like Ed Brubaker a lot, and I think this will be good, but I thought they revived Steve so he could be Captain America.
Well, "Cap", solicits hint that USAgent has a chance at this not having been a lethal strike, but I guess I'll know for sure when the T'bolt comics and/or Mighty A comic hits stands today. We all know how last pages sometimes make things look more severe for drama. Well, "Cap", solicits hint that USAgent has a chance at this not having been a lethal strike, but I guess I'll know for sure when the T'bolt comics and/or Mighty A comic hits stands today. We all know how last pages sometimes make things look more severe for drama. Still similar to my Bill Foster/Frost Giant campaign (which probably would never see the light of day because following an unsolicited fan idea or seeming to is taken as grounds to get sued and other such things like seeming unprofessional for taking an idea from the frowned upon fanfic-esque web. I just thought it an interesting natural progression from so many Asgard related deaths of late and a way to have extra variety amongst the giant characters. ...and resurrections are not unheard of in a god's powerset, so it makes sense there too. Marvel, does it help if in this same forum I'm touting the idea I confirm that I want in no way monetary or public credit for this? 'Cause I don't. I want no credit, and lay no claims to this as a comic idea. I'd just love to see this development and have Bill back as something interesting to boot. The scores of Pym particle characters could do with some freshness.:9b241331d1="weirmonken"]First, I just wanted to say thank you to BlackSamurai for his insightful commentary. Also, Bill Foster as a Frost Giant is simply brilliant. If written by Dan Slott or Christopher Priest, it could potentially be one of the best comics on the market today.[/quote:9b241331d1]No, thank you Weirmonken, (and a continuous shout out to Agent 27 for keeping the follow up). You make a good point, since it always helps to actually do something high quality with returns of any nature, else they just fade back into the background and get eyed again as excess that can be trimmed in an event.:9b241331d1="weirmonken"]Now, I'm certain that no matter what happens, this will be an entertaining read, and I sincerely hope that Brubaker (and the editorial staff) will show proper respect for the work of their predecessors. In fact, it could be something as simple as "gel bullets", like those employed by Jasper Cole from Black Panther, or some other non-lethal alternative. Further, there is no doubt that Brubaker understood that such an incendiary choice as having Steve Rogers posing with a pistol on the cover of this comic would create controversy, and therefore drive up sales, much like the cover of Captain America #321, which features him firing a machine gun. So, we shall see what unfolds. I just sincerely hope that continuity of characterization is not sacrificed to the gods of marketability. It was that sort of decision making that contributed in large part to the dismal storytelling produced by Marvel in the 1990s.[/quote:9b241331d1]Yes, characterization always needs to be expanded on with taste. I wouldn't stray from certain tenants for certain characters because some of them are made expressly to portray a timeless ideal and things like that, but at the end of the day, I can stomach even the nicest of guys becoming an axe murderer if story lead up to it makes it sensible and not forced. I have yet to see what leads Steve to be a gun user, but I recognize just as much that having one doesn't have to mean he's become any less respectful of non-lethal solutions outside of wartime; and, as was said, this isn't automatically making him the Punisher or anything.

:cap: Oh yeah, I'm back. Even though Marvel botched the ending of my "Reborn" story they are making up for it with ANOTHER mini-series! Thanks! Long time readers may remember other times when I struck out on my own with a new look and mission: I used the moniker Nomad of course a long time ago and and then a few years later I quit being Cap after the US government told me that I didn't own my shield and costumed identity. I was replaced as Cap by reformed villain John Walker, aka Super Patriot. I received a new shield from Tony Stark ( but soon returned it while we were feuding) and adopted a black and red costume and the code name The Captain. Eventually the government apologized to me and I accepted my old costume back and all was soon forgiven. As you can see this is nothing new but I'm looking forward to being known as Steve Rogers, the not-dead-anymore guy. On a side note- I just learned that John Walker, long known as US Agent and costar of the smash hit comic Omega Flight, recently was killed in the line of superhero duty. Maybe when I return as Captain America good ol' Bucky could become the new US Agent? Mr. Brubaker?
