Asian-Pacific Immigrants and Americans of Asian Pacific descent remain an integral part of the United States today. As of 2008, some 5.4 percent of the U.S. population-or about 16.6 million people-claim full or partial Asian Pacific descent. They represent one of the quickest growing groups in the U.S., with Asians boasting a 2.7 population percentage increase between 2007 and 2008, and Pacific Islanders nearly matching that with a 2.4 percent increase.
