David E. Failor, Executive Director of Stamp Services at the United States Postal Service, opened up the first panel of the day--not just for Marvel, but for the whole show! Sharra Kliebenstein performed the National Anthem. The second stamp ceremony in as many years, the Marvel USPS commemorative stamps look great and the crowd was super enthused.
Failor then introduced Mickey Barnett, of the USPS Board of Governors, who delivered a formal and rousing speech about the plight and pathos of Marvel's super heroes. He then introduced the characters and comic covers that would be featured on the USPS, including: Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Hulk, Wolverine, Elektra, Iron Man, Captain America, Silver Surfer, Namor, and Thing. The panelists then unveiled a display featuring all 20 character and cover style stamps to a huge ovation.
Mr. Barnett then turned things over to Dan Buckley, Marvel Comics' President of Publishing, who took the podium and expressed his happiness in teaming up with USPS to expand the Marvel Empire into the realm of collectible stamps. David Failor returned to give the closing remarks and joked that he was too overdressed and said he'd come back next year in more casual dress. Failor encouraged everyone to have a fun-filled weekend and go to the USPS booth in the Exhibition hall at the Convention Center where the new Marvel Comics collectible stamps were being sold this weekend.
