A convention is not the same without a few costumers and cosplayers, and San Diego Comic-Con lived up to its reputation with a constant barrage of costumes parading the con floor. Marvel jumped into the fray by inviting the cosplayers by the booth for two different events: the Marvel Cosplay Photo Op and the Marvel Costume Contest. Each was a hit for Marvel, the cosplayers and the con attendees lucky enough to grab shots!
We held the photo op on Friday and had over 50 costumes ranging from Captain America, X-Men, Black Widow and several different Iron Man armors! Each cosplayer got their photo taken on the golden throne and then jumped in for the group shot.
We were also honored to have a few professional cosplayers stop by the Marvel booth throughout the weekend. One in particular was Yaya Han, who has been costuming for over 10 years ago. Throughout all those years, she has created and worn over 5 Marvel costumes, plus 50+ other anime, comic, original and video game characters. We were able to grab photos of her new Marvel costumes: Scarlet Witch and Black Cat, before she had to jet off to another convention in Florida. You can check out her site here:
yayahan.com Another group of cosplayers organized an "Iron Man 2" group complete with Tony Stark, Justin Hammer, Rhodey, Black Widow and the Ironettes! They were gracious enough to pose for a few photos for Marvel.com, which you can check out below.
Continuing the Marvel tradition, we hosted the Costume Contest on Saturday and had tons of cosplayers and costumers enter for their chance to hold this year's title. There were familiar faces from years before, plus a ton of new entrants. Judges for this year's contest were Marvel staffers Arune Singh, Rich Ginter and Michelle Marasigan. Competition was fierce, but with audience help the judges were able to come to a decision. First place and the title went to War Machine, with 2nd place going to Lady Red Skull & Captain America, and finally 3rd to Valkyrie. Though, we here at Marvel consider all who cosplay and wear costumes to be true believers! We can't wait for next year's contest!
This year's convention was full of stellar Marvel costumes and cosplay throughout! Check out the
SDCC photo gallery and images below for shots of all the costumes seen at the Marvel booth. Plus stay tuned to the Cosplay & Costuming blog over at
