|The Invaders by Alex Ross|
On September 9, World War II's greatest heroes will come full circle in the pages of INVADERS NOW!, a five-issue limited series by Alex Ross, Christos Gage and Caio Reiss. According to Gage, they've survived their trials to date only to face their darkest challenge in the present day.
"There was a time during World War II when the Invaders had to make an awful choice that led to the deaths of innocents," he explains. "It's a moment that's stayed with them ever since, and now a threat relating to that time endangers us all. The Invaders have to reunite to face it, and to face the consequences of their actions.
"And, of course, this is the first full reunion of the original Invaders, including Bucky and Toro, since the war."
The group first formally banded together at the suggestion of wartime British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who, sorely impressed by the heroes dispatching of the villainous Master Man, urged them into service. Captain America, The Human Torch, Namor the Sub-Mariner and their youthful partners continued their battle against the Axis powers as the Invaders.

"What I like about the Invaders is that they embody the idea that different people, different cultures and different ideologies can not just work together against a common threat, but make each other better, not in spite of, but because of their differences. They're an illustration of what makes America great."
As World War II engulfed the globe in the 1940's, the Invaders moved their operations to England and welcomed other heroes into their ranks. Soon, the team boasted the likes of Spitfire, The Whizzer, Miss America, The Blazing Skull and The Silver Scorpion.
Among these stalwart adventurers, Gage holds one Invader particularly close to his writer's heart.
"Obviously I have a soft spot for Union Jack," he says. "The UNION JACK [limited series] with Mike Perkins was my first full fledged Marvel project and I just love the look and spirit of the character. He's sort of an everyman among legends."

"We'll be seeing classic Invaders foes in the present," Gage says of the villains of INVADERS NOW!. "Master Man, Warrior Woman, a new Alex Ross-designed Iron Cross, and Arnim Zola; we're revealing for the first time the circumstances under which Zola left his human body for his artificial one."
In the final days of World War II, as Germany and Japan shattered under the constant pressure of Allied forces and the Invaders, the team suffered the loss of Captain America and Bucky, apparently killed in action. But when a new Cap and Bucky appeared, courtesy of the US government, the Invaders continued into peacetime as the All-Winners Squad.
Recently, a new Invaders formed under the leadership of The Thin Man to once again fight tyranny, but for the real deal, the stars had not yet realigned for their reuniting. Until now.
