Enter Joe Casey, who wrote the limited series IRON MAN 2: PUBLIC IDENTITY, co-plotted by "Iron Man 2" screenwriter Justin Theroux and drawn by Barry Kitson and Ron Lim, as well as a series of three Exclusive Digital Comics recently collected in IRON MAN 2: AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. drawn by Tim Green III, Felix Ruiz and Matt Camp.
With the release of the film on DVD and Blu-ray on September 28 and the release of IRON MAN 2: PUBLIC IDENTITY collecting the limited series and Exclusive Digital Comics on September 29, we spoke with the writer to find out what it was like working on the tie-in comics, working with screenwriter Justin Theroux and writing with specific voices in mind for the characters.

Aside from writing with specific actors' voices in mind, Casey also found himself altering his writing style a bit in terms of an aspect of the film industry that doesn't always transfer over into comics: budget.
"I suppose, working with Marvel Studios, I was a bit more aware of a 'budget,' which is not how I normally approach a comic book," Casey says. "But I felt like it was part of the gig to only imagine things that a movie studio would spring for."

"We were on a pretty tight schedule so I was able to see a fairly finalized script," Casey says. "Since our story takes place between the two films, it was a bit of a dance to make sure everything fit, that we didn't get ahead of ourselves. Not to mention having to factor how the "Incredible Hulk" film fit into the movie continuity."

"It was interesting," Casey says of the experience. "The movie studio is very aware of what they're doing, so they paid close attention, even to the shorts we did for Marvel.com. It's not exactly the Marvel Universe I grew up with, [but] it's not like the Ultimate universe either. It's a brand new thing, with its own rules and its own continuity."
After living with the characters for so long, Casey took a break before jumping into watching the movie.
"I only just saw it recently, on a plane to Korea, so I'd had enough distance to simply enjoy it as a movie," the writer reveals. "Good popcorn flick."
