One of the three most well-known members of the Avengers along with Iron Man and Thor, Captain America has shepherded the team through some of their darkest periods and currently leads them in the new Heroic Age spreading throughout the Marvel Universe. In Cap's earliest adventures with the team, he came face-to-face with the original Baron Zemo--the man responsible for apparently killing Captain America's sidekick and leaving Cap frozen in the ocean--on a number of occasions. Zemo led the Masters of Evil, made up of some of the Avengers' fiercest foes at the time, beginning in AVENGERS Vol. 1 #6. Cap and Zemo's conflict reached its conclusion in AVENGERS Vol. 1 #15, when Zemo perished.

Cap almost continuously served with the Avengers after his resurrection. In the super human
Shortly after this, Steve Rogers seemingly lost his life once more in CAPTAIN AMERICA Vol. 5 #25, but instead became lost in time. After his former sidekick, Bucky, helped rescue him, he reformed the Avengers to put an end to Norman Osborn's Dark Reign. Today, Rogers stands as America's top cop, overseeing all branches of the Avengers, including his own personal squad of Secret Avengers.
