"When the anti-mutant factions got moving, they were incredibly successful in catching a mood of popular sentiment and riding it into power," explains writer Mike Carey. "They didn't try to rein in the anger and fears of their followers, they inflamed and encouraged them; very consciously and deliberately, they took the lid off Pandora's box and turned hatred into a political force. There was a price to be paid for this, obviously, in the short term as well as in the longer term. Henry McCoy was one of the people who paid it."
