Five Favorite Avengers: Christos Gage

Five Favorite Avengers: Christos Gage

By TJ Dietsch

“And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born—to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand!”

As the Heroic Age dawns on the Marvel Universe and we prepare for a new chapter in the ongoing saga of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, each Friday Marvel.com will present a different column focusing on the one and only Avengers. From line-ups to costumes to villains to classic stories and beyond, we’ve got you covered on the history of Marvel’s most prolific team of heroes!

So let the call go out: Avengers Assemble!

When we asked AVENGERS ACADEMY and FEAR ITSELF: THE HOME FRONT writer Christos Gage who his favorite Avengers are, he came back faster than Quicksilver! So excited to talk about his picks for the best and brightest Avengers to ever assemble, Gage came up with a pretty eclectic list in record time.

From relatable characters to stalwarts, this roster spans the grand history of the team and gives an idea of the writer's mindset when it comes to handling the big guns. Take it away Christos!

5. Hercules

“Because he's Greek and manly, just like me!”

4. The Beast

“He was the team's comic relief, but also often its heart.”

3. Captain America (Steve Rogers)

“He is the Avengers. Sometimes he goes away, but not for long. The Avengers gave Cap a home, and he gave them their identity.”

2. Giant Man (Hank Pym)

“I'm a little prejudiced, because I'm writing him in AVENGERS ACADEMY, but Hank Pym is a founding Avenger who's been with the team for its highest highs and lowest lows. A really rich, interesting character.”

1. Hawkeye

“Some characters just seem to belong with the Avengers, and Hawkeye is one of them. He's cool on his own, but both he and the team benefit from his presence. And you just have to love this guy whose only ‘super power’ is really good aim standing among gods and living legends.”

I couldn't agree more. Hawkeye will always be number one. (of course, I'm a little biased when it comes to Hawkeye)

After seeing this line up I can't wait for the day that Christos Gage takes over the Avengers.  After Bendis finishes a much longer run.

My fav five would be Captain America, Hawkeye, Beast, Wonderman, and the Black Knight.
