Born Warren Kenneth Worthington III, Angel first appeared in UNCANNY X-MEN #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. During adolescence, Worthington's genetic mutation manifested itself, causing him to sprout massive feathered wings and other super-human abilities, eventually leading him to become a founding member of the X-Men. As the heir and CEO of the multi-billion dollar corporation Worthington Industries, Angel used his wealth to fund the Los Angeles-based super hero team the Champions. Not content to be part of just two super hero groups, Angel was also part of the Defenders, X-Factor and X-Force. He has also gone by the name Archangel after undergoing a transformation at the hands of the immortal mutant Apocalypse.
