A writer could easily state that the Green Goblin had kidnapped Ben and killed a failed clone, to trow of Peter, and gave the real one to the Jackal.

Why do they have to pretend he never die? Resurrect him. That goo was his body. He could still have a soul or spirit somewhere that doc strange or someone could retrieve.
Problem is, Ben disolved into clone goo. Gonna be hard to explain how to come back from that one. Unless, they pull the weaksauce off panel swtich just before he bought it back then
