Unlimited Highlights: Avenging Spider-Man

By Ben Chabala

Every week we'll pick a handful of awesome comics from the thousands available through Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited. From creator spotlights to editor's picks and more, this'll be your spot to find something new and cool.

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #1 web swings its way to store shelves on November 9 and to prep you for that inevitable awesomeness we’ve got five incredible issues teaming the amazing arachnid with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!

AVENGERS #11 (1963)

From his felonious fortress at the edge of time, Kang the Conqueror plots the demise of the Avengers. With Tony Stark supposedly dead and Iron Man missing, Kang hatches his most ingenious plan yet: He teleports a perfect robotic doppelganger of the Amazing Spider-Man through time and space to destroy the remaining heroes. As if things couldn’t get worse for young Peter Parker, now super villains from the 30th century want to ruin his rep! Can the real wall crawler stop his mechanical double before it destroys Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #3 (1964)

The Avengers want Spider-Man—to join the team! Always the loner, how could he possibly pass up a chance to join the Marvel Universe’s top team? Unfortunately they don’t just pass out memberships for Earth’s premiere super squad. Spidey needs to prove himself.  How? Throw down with the Jade Giant himself, the unstoppable, incorrigible, Incredible Hulk! Is scoring a spot alongside Cap and Thor really worth all those broken bones and bruises? Read on to find out!

NEW AVENGERS #2 (2004)

Someone popped the Raft and it’s leaking super freaks! Spider-Man and Captain America show up to plug the hole while deep beneath the prison, Matt Murdock, Luke Cage, and Jessica Drew try to convince the mysterious Sentry that he should try his hand at heroics again. It starts with five different heroes against 87 of the most deadly super villains on the planet, and somehow during the most stacked super slugfest ever, Spidey and the gang come together and start avenging. You can bet that’s bad news for the bad guys!

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #7

Ezekiel Stane just obliterated the Stark Industries HQ with Tony’s own tech. Ben Urich and Peter Parker want the inside scoop on the disaster, and Spider-Man wants to help Iron Man anyway he can. If that means assaulting the wheel chair-bound Tinkerer in his hotel room, busting up a suburban New Jersey home, or arriving fashionably late to a social debutante’s Sweet 16, Spidey’s got the Golden Avenger’s back!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #37

Ever wonder what happened the first time Captain America met Spider-Man?  No sparks flew, but sand did, and lots of it. The two heroes team-up for the very first time to take down the deadly dust storm known as The Sandman. Then fate ups the ante and deals out four rogue time travelling scholars with futuristic science powers who want Flint Marko dead. Talk about an exciting first double duel!
