At the end of Season 1, the Helicarrier is destroyed and Nova, Power Man, Iron Fist and White Tiger are all living with Spider-Man. With all that ‘super’ under one roof, you might think it would be like a crazy reality show, but according to Drake Bell--the voice of Spider-Man himself--the problems they encounter are actually a little more…ordinary.
“Peter is having to struggle with sharing his computer, video games, and the refrigerator, stuff like that, but it also helps Peter because this is the season where he really becomes their leader,” elaborates Bell. “So, it’s helping him grow up a little.”
This season we also get to see Doctor Curt Connors become the Lizard, one of the most iconic Spider-Man villains.
“[That’s] really tough for Peter,” notes Bell. “They’re buddies and [Connor’s] really the guy he can vibe with at S.H.I.E.L.D. because he’s a science nerd, and into all the tech. So throughout the season, he’s struggling with having to defeat him, but also wanting to save his friend.”

Supervising Producer Cort Lane confirms that this transformation was planned to complement the recent “Amazing Spider-Man” film from this past summer, saying, “It was planned in Season 1, which is why we got to know him a bit, and see that he and Peter were simpatico. So that when it happened at the very beginning of Season 2 it would be that much more exciting.”
Lane also hints at another interesting storyline with a legendary Spider-Man villain familiar to the Marvel Universe.
“[There will be] lots of Osborn. And Norman Osborn in different ways than you would expect to see him.”
This season is chock full of villains, with Carnage making an appearance and Loki returning, hell-bent on revenge after last season’s defeats. And, of course, there will be more of Dr. Octopus.
“Within the show, he’s a very interesting, multi-layered character, and we’ve always intended for him to have an arc that mirrors Spider-Man,” reveals Lane. “He’s a sniveling coward at the beginning of Season 1, and he comes into his own over the course of these two seasons, which is not good for Spider-Man.

However, Lane points out that Season 2 isn’t all about the villains.
“[This season] is really exciting for a lot of reasons. Season 1 was all about Peter trying to become a better hero, but along the way, having to get along with these new heroes he’s had to train. So in Season 2, [they’ve gelled] as a team. [Also,] there are more Avengers guest stars, including our first appearance of Hawkeye, which is my favorite super hero, so that was super cool for me. Spider-Man teams up individually with the Avengers, so we got to do all the key [members] we wanted to do and we have some other big Marvel guest stars, like Wolverine and a surprise special guest.”
Following the Season 2 premiere on January 21, new episodes of “Ultimate Spider-Man” will air on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. ET inside Marvel Universe on Disney XD.
