New York Comic Con: World War Hulk Front Line

By Ryan Penagos

World War Hulk:
Front Line #1

Hulk is coming back and that spells trouble for everyone on Earth. With the heroes working to battle the Jade Giant and his forces, what will become of the civilians? How will their story be told? Through Front Line, of course! The Civil War Front Line team of writer Paul Jenkins, artist Ramon Bachs and cover artist John Watson return, backed up by a few new faces. "We're doing a second Front Line series, running from June through August," says editor Bill Rosemann. "The issues will come out basically every two weeks. People responded very strongly to the first Front Line that tied into Civil War. It gave a great sort of behind-the-scenes and between-the-scenes, street level look at the Civil War. so we're continuing that theme. Paul Jenkins is writing and each story will be drawn by Ramon Bachs. There will be a second story drawn by Shawn Martinbrough who hasn't been at Marvel in a few years. I worked with when I was over at DC and thought he would be great for the story. There's a great street level, urban feel to his art.

World War Hulk:
Front Line #2

"How does World War Hulk, which [has these] hugely powerful characters slugging it out in the middle of Manhattan, affect the person on the street, how does that affect someone living in Queens, how does that affect someone living in Harlem? What happens when you have to evacuate Manhattan in 24 hours? What happens when these godlike being come to your street? How does that affect you? "It will feature Ben Urich and Sally from Front Line and also Danny, [a] cop in the costume division. The 2 stories are basically Ben and Sally covering this great event. Seeing who leaves the city, who doesn't, who is able to, who can't. The back-up story is a murder mystery. Danny, the cop in the costume division, must team up with Korg--the great Saturn rock guy [from "Planet Hulk"], to solve a murder mystery. Someone in Hulk's war party has been killed and the question is, 'Who did it?' Basically, Danny has to figure out who he is and they have 24 hours to do it. If he doesn't, because of the oath he takes with the War Bound, Danny himself must pay the price.Which in their case, is death. So Danny is very interested in finding out who did this. This is an anti-buddy story about them going around Manhattan when all this crazy evacuation is going on. "In Issues 2-5, there's going to be a two-page humor back-up, which will be a different flavor. So like the first Front Line, it will be a collection of stories that give different views of this big huge World War Hulk story." Jenkins pens the comedic back-ups and is joined by Chris Moreno, his partner on the mini-series Sidekicks, who'll be penciling, inking and coloring.
