I've been meaning to write this story for a while. Over the course of my two years here at the House of Ideas as Editor of Marvel.com, I've watched "social networking" become a bigger part of not just what we do here at Marvel, but all businesses. Sure, we put plenty of muscle into
MySpace and
Facebook, but I think we have something very cool going on with
our efforts on Twitter.
[If you're in the dark about Twitter, it's a place to share what you're doing, what you like and what you know with people. Here's the FAQ.]
Some backstory. I first read about Twitter in an issue of Wired in summer 2007. It sounded like a great idea and with convention season coming up, I thought it would be a good way to keep fans updated on all the big happenings. I got in touch with
Jack and
Biz, two of the big-wigs at Twitter and we had a cool meeting here at Marvel. They were gracious enough to spotlight me while I Tweeted from San Diego Comic-Con, Wizard World Chicago and more. With Twitter, we were able to give fans reading the feed both on Marvel.com and at Twitter immediate updates about Marvel news, announcements and wackiness.
Flash forward a year and a half and we now have a
dedicated Marvel Twitter feed (run by myself and a few minions), to spread news and info, as well as converse with the fans. Our "follower" count (those who subscribe to our feed) grows by leaps and bounds every day and the number of Marvel creators, staffers and associates is nearing 100.
And that last part is what really made me want to write this story, spread the word and get to know your pals at Marvel a little better. Who's on Twitter? Check it:
