Marvel made headlines in mid-March when it inked a licensing deal with Gazillion Entertainment to develop and publish Massively Multiplayer (MMO) games. These will feature Marvel's iconic universe of more than 5,000 Super Heroes, including characters from movies and animated series. Gazillion CEO and President Rob Hutter tells Big Download that "Marvel thought this would be a great casual MMO to enter the market place and focus on the mass market before thinking hard about bringing the big Marvel Universe MMO to PC and consoles over the next few years." The first game in development is a casual MMO for younger audiences based on Marvel's Super Hero Squad property. Super Hero Squad features an exciting, super-stylized look of the greatest Super Heroes, including Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Thor, Fantastic Four, Captain America and many others.
The deal will also allow for Gazillion to develop and publish Marvel Universe, a highly anticipated MMO for PC and consoles. Details of this second initiative will be released in upcoming months.
