Hey, kids! Eric Mattias' name may not be on Magneto's radar but as a student enrolled at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, he observes the fabled institution from a unique set of eyes.
While other mutants are off saving the day or training to make X-Man, Eric ostracizes himself from his peers for his insecurity over his uncool power. He spends his time on the computer, reflecting about the world around him, while trying to cope with having "the world's suckiest mutant power."
You want to know what his power is, don't you? Well, in order to get all the details, you'll have to pick up Eric's book "Wolverine: Worst Day Ever" (written by his real world counterpart, Barry Lyga and due in stores everywhere April 22)!
Luckily, we've gotten hold of Eric's journal! We'll post two entries per week sure to shed insight into the life and world of Eric Mattias—look for them on Tuesdays and Thursdays on Marvel.com. The sooner we understand how mutants socially interact, the sooner our societies can peacefully coexist.
In Danger

I decided to sneak into the Danger Room again,
Yeah, I know Professor X got all angry at me for doing it last time. But I don't think it's my fault Colossus tripped over me. That could have happened even if I wasn't there. He could have tripped over some rubble. Or his own giant, steel feet.
In fact, I think I probably helped him by being there. Now, when he grabs Wolverine for a fastball special, he'll be more careful where he puts his feet and how he steps. See? I'm like a special added bonus to the Danger Room.
Professor X ought to pay me.
(Well, he lets me live here for free, so I guess I won't charge him for my valuable services. I'm cool like that.)

The Danger Room seemed boring at first. No one was in there. When it's not activated, it's just this huge chamber with metal walls, floor, and ceiling. Nothing really worth blogging about.
But as I hung around, waiting for something to happen, I suddenly heard Professor X's voice over the loudspeaker. "This will just be a basic targeting run, Sam. No reason to worry."

Sam?
I turned and the door opened and Sam came cruising in. He was wearing an X-Man uniform!
Oh, man, I hated him right then. He had a little swagger in his walk and he seemed way too confident for someone who's just a kid. I remembered how he'd been so scared when Wolverine rescued him from Unus the Untouchable. Not swaggering around
then, were you?
"I'm ready, Professor X," he said.
The bright Danger Room went dim for a second and then — like magic — Sentinels appeared.
Sentinels are these enormous robots that hate mutants. Some guy built them a while ago and even though the X-Men stopped him from destroying all the mutants in the world, his robots were still out there. Someone is
always reactivating one or building a new one from blueprints they bought on the Internet. And even though everyone thinks they can control the Sentinels, it always turns out that the Sentinels revert to their original programming and start hunting down mutants no matter what.
Sentinels are Bad News.

This is what it looks like when the X-Men fight a Sentinel. Much
cooler than when Sam fights one. |
My first day at the school, Professor X gave me a rundown on all the enemies the X-Men face, all the bad guys who hate mutants. Most of the time, his advice was "Run" or "Get help." But when he showed me a picture of the Sentinels, he added, "Pray."
Tired of typing. More soon.
