These are [u:b2220d24d4]TWO SEPERATE CHARACTERS [/u:b2220d24d4]and would be better if they kept them that way. Not long ago we learned that Mickey Rourke is playing the character [b:b2220d24d4]Whiplash[/b:b2220d24d4] with the alter ego name [b:b2220d24d4]Ivan Vanko[/b:b2220d24d4]. I hope they don't do the same thing they did on Spiderman 3 and try to incorporate too many villians only to not do them justice on the big screen. I really liked Iron Man and look forward to seeing this one next year, but please Marvel do the right thing for the fans of the comic books do it right - especially now since you have carte blanche. :grider:

All the Iron Man franchise has to do is not paint itself into a corner. It, like Dark Knight, seems to want to ground itself in realism, which is cool and all, but it presents some problems: elimination of characters that do not fit the image. That's what made Mandarin a barely referenced nod rather than a full out super powered main adversary. They may be being strategic though, holding off adapting someone like Mandarin for full-glory adaptation to the big screen, that is. Thinking about how they will have to eventually mesh the realistic worlds of Iron Man (so far) and Captain America (I'm assuming, and likely) with the gamma mutate science of Hulk and the mythical aspect of Thor to make the Avengers even possible, I can see Iron Man dipping into more fantasy by IM III. I wouldn't presume to know what they'd have down the road, but one possible way to venture into less strict realism to allow IM to sync with someone like Thor (besides treating it all like the Ultimates when there was enough doubt and supporting story to have Thor's abilities solely tech based and Asgard an aspect of an unbalanced mind), is to make the Mandarin's abilities partially a thing of rigged environments. The ultra realism might make them hesitant to include the origin of the Mandarin's rings as extra-terrestrial, but they are at least technology based artifacts that seem almost magical in use. It'd be hard to sell intense flames, ice-waves and teleportation as originating from a ring on a finger, but having pre-rigged effects triggered and aimed by the rings is entirely possible. If they do wish to venture past the 'explainable' they can though, because Nick already made his comment about there being others out there, and that allows the story an excuse to not need everything to be based on believable tech. That being said, Whiplash enough of a departure from the Iron Monger for IM not to fall into a problem of repetition. I find talk of blending him with Crimson Dynamo as unnecessary though, even if they will beef up his look with an armor based outer shell a bit, keeping the focus on the tech-whips allows for IM3 to have a slew of armored baddies possible, and aerial combat would be enough to differentiate the feel of the movie from what having an armored adversary like Monger was, since he was more grounded and the imposing type... especially with IM2 already altering the dynamic with WL and Black Widow.

It's great that we get to look forward to an IM3 but Marvel shouldn't get ahead of themselves. If this movie really flops, the general public may not want another, but if they make the focus on spying (with Spymaster, Ghost, and Black Widow, for some sex appeal), this movie could be great.
Iron Man 1 was great. I enjoyed the story line and the characters very much. I just hope that Iron Man 2 will be a good as the first. Cause if U ask me Mickey Rouke does not suit the bill. Now the Mandarin villian will be a perfect touch to any Iron Man movie.
