Starting today, Marvel.com will be previewing some of these pin-ups—from both new and legendary DD creators alike—as well as some art from the issue, which I will be yammering on and on about.
We start the preview with two pin-ups: one by Rafael Grampá and one by Stefano Guadiano.
Rafael Grampá Pin-Up
Daredevil pin-up by Rafael Grampá
Rafael is the creator behind the brilliant Mesmo Delivery. When I first saw Mesmo at the San Diego Comic-Con [last year], I was just absolutely blown away by the extraordinary detail and personality in his work. From the attached pin-up, you can see why this is Daredevil as only Rafael Grampá could envision him.
From the exposed neck—I mean, his costume does not really fit him—to his Billy clubs, which look like they were assembled at a kitchen table in a Hell's Kitchen walkup, this is the costume of a very violent man who built an outfit from goods seemingly harvested at a sporting goods store. The thing I love about this piece is that this version of DD appears to come from our New York City, far from a world where spandex and unstable molecules exist. This is a super hero outfit built from boxing gear, one created to tackle the grit and strange violence of Hell's Kitchen. Also note Rafael's fantastic take on DD's radar sense. These aren't clean, concentric circles filling the night sky from a hero blessed with extraordinary gifts. These are strange, uneven lines, something primal, like an animal's sense of smell. Rafael's work here is terrific—this is one of my favorite pin-ups—so if you dig it, check out the issue, and check out Grampá's other fantastic work.
Stefano Gaudiano Pin-Up

Stefano Gaudiano is my editorial office's secret weapon. He's provided extraordinarily beautiful inks over the Michael Lark's brilliant pencils on the DAREDEVIL ongoing title for the last few years. As any penciler who's had the pleasure of working with Stefano will tell you, he is an artist's artist. While he has a very recognizable style, it's one that he has deftly applied to probably 15 or 25 different artists over the past few years. Stefano, as you can tell from the attached pin-up, is a highly skilled draftsman as well as an inker extraordinaire.
For this composition, we discussed taking a look at a Matt Murdock who had returned home after a long, violent night. I think Stefano did a wonderful job with it. For more of Stefano's pencils, check out IMMORTAL WEAPONS # 1, which is also out now.

Read the Diggle/De La Torre Thunderbolts issues (#126-129. 132) and you will have no doubt that this new creative team is perfect for Daredevil. Unfortunately, they were perfect for Thunderbolts.
