Bold New Initiative at Marvel Yields More Sellouts

Civil War is over and Tony Stark and Marvel are finding that the Initiative is proving to be a huge success. New Avengers #28, Ms. Marvel #13 and Thunderbolts #112, three titles involving Marvel's bold new direction, the Initiative, have sold out at Diamond. In New Avengers #28, a team of underground heroes who refuse to subscribe to the Registration Act must not only take down planetary threats, but are forced to duck other heroes from the Initiative who are hunting them. Dave Wallace of SilverBulletComicBooks.com says, "This is one book which has really benefited from the fallout of Civil War. The story of the New Avengers has gained a new sense of immediacy as a result of the group's status as outlaw heroes, pitting them not only against their more traditional comic book villains, but also against their own pro-registration brethren, giving the team an "outsider" vibe which makes them more attractive and more fun to root for. Bendis' writing is fun and energetic and…Leinil Yu again shows off his immense artistic talent here." Ms. Marvel, both the title and the character, have been greatly affected by the end of Civil War as Carol Danvers, on her quest to the be the best of the best, actually becomes leader of the Mighty Avengers. Paul King of ComicBloc.com says, "This title is easily the best female superhero title on the market right now. It is intelligently written and beautifully rendered. This issue is accessible and appropriate for everyone." Thunderbolts twists the long-running theme of the Thunderbolts as a team of villains looking for redemption into a team full of the worst villains being forced to work for the government. Adam Chapman of Comixtreme.com calls Thunderbolts #112 "extremely well written" and "the art by Deodato Jr. continues to impress." Watch as the new Initiative continues to shake the Marvel U to its very core and changes the status quo of your favorite heroes. Marvel currently does not plan to go back to press on New Avengers #28, Ms. Marvel #13, or Thunderbolts #112. Note, there may be copies of these issues at the retailer level. MS.
