Felica Hardy has walked on both sides of the law. As the Black Cat she has been a skilled thief as well as a costumed superhero. Since making her debut in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #194, she has scrambled across the rooftops of New York City as both hero and villain, but recently has taken membership in the all new Heroes For Hire. Now getting paid for her superheroics, the Black Cat is vamping it up like never before.
Felicia was always the fun-loving type. Taking up her father's mantle as a world class cat burglar, Felicia created the Black Cat persona to further her criminal exploits. However, upon meeting the amazing Spider-Man, Felicia felt a strong attraction to the Web-Slinger and tried her hand at heroics to win his affection. The two began dating, sharing adventures and sides of their lives with each other. However, something that good can't last.
Feeling inferior to her boyfriend due to her lack of super powers, she made an ill-fated deal with the Kingpin to gain new abilities. The Kingpin granted her with the power to "jinx" her enemies, causing extreme bad luck for her opponents. Her new-found abilities eventually began to affect Spider-Man, which was exactly the Kingpin's intent. After some magical intervention by Dr. Strange, Felicia was stripped of her new powers and replaced with more cat-like abilities, such as perfect balance, claws and night vision. These powers faded in time, leaving Felicia once again completely human.
Never one to let bad luck stop her, the Black Cat continued on. Moving on from her feelings for Peter Parker and making friends, enemies and lovers all over the Marvel Universe, Felicia has recently settled into the new incarnation of Heroes for Hire.
During "Civil War," S.H.I.E.L.D. put together a new Heroes For Hire to enforce the Superhuman Registration Act. The team consisted of Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, Tarantula, Shang-Chi, Humbug and Orka. Black Cat, along with Paladin, joined solely for monetary gain. The new Heroes worked as hunters for the government, even being sent after the fugitive Captain America. With the war over and smoke clearing, the Heroes For Hire are now back to working to fill their pockets for justice.
With HEROES FOR HIRE #9 taking her into the Savage Land, the Black Cat is finding herself a long way from what she is used to. Can she keep her eye on the money and adapt to her new life of a world adventurer? Will her S.H.I.E.L.D. ties and Pro-Reg status jeopardize her relationship with the on-the-run Spider-Man? One thing is for sure: this Cat doesn't like to be held down.
